Here's the surprise: for a Caroni, the dirt stays on a leash. Several tasters call it fruity and gentle, with green tea and tobacco notes that make it a bit unusual, plus the tar and rubber arriving mostly on the finish. Full-bodied, creamy, and easy to drink despite 62.2%. A few felt it lacked the industrial punch of its brothers.

A Caroni with lots of fruit flavors, herbs and tea notes and also the typical dirtiness with tar and rubber, which comes more in the aftertaste. The alcohol is well integrated, the mouthfeel is wonderfully creamy and the finish is medium-long and warm. Delicious, but far too expensive for current prices.

Nice nose with dirt and some fruits. On the palate seit again, however, combined with herb / tea / tabacco notes. Intense.

Second tasting: Less brute "Caroni" on the nose than the RA HTR 1998 26yo just tasted. (RX19244) But more subtle aromas. More for explorers with plenty of time. After a while, the dirty aromas come through more strongly. The same picture on the palate: this seems more like a light 98 to me. The finish doesn't offer as much in comparison, tending more towards the bitter. Hmm, here I have to correct my rating from last year significantly downwards (-6), I like the RA mentioned above better. Tasted at the 12th GRF Bonus and highlight at the Colors of Rum Tasting. Very smooth, lots of Caroni but of course you don't get a bottle like this for free.

On the one hand, many typical Caroni notes, but the dirty character remains tightly held in check. Unusual are the distinct green notes of tea and tobacco. Overall, quite a change from other 1998 continental-aged Caronis, but not enough for the top group in my book.

While this is a Caroni there is something unique about it. Even at this high ABV it aomes in smooth and it's more fruity than your average caroni. The typical Caroni notes are still there though :-) There is a bit of smoke to the spices and fruits on the nose well blegnede with the typical Caroni notes. Tha palate is nicely warm with some wood, spices and fruits. There is a very light touch of chocolate which gets more powerful in the empty glass. The finish is medium long and warm with nice spices and some rubber. I think that with a drop of water this could be a very good beginner Caroni. Price to quality is OK.

12th GRF, Colours of Rum Tasting. Quick and short... Nose: rubber glove, plastic, some bacon too, toasty. Yes, Caroni. Vanilla. But a bit restrained... Palate: strong here, nice and sweet, bacon, singed plastic, little mint, very round and pleasant, I like very much.

Solid Caroni with a classic profile. Dirty notes, rubber and dark spice are present but somewhat restrained. Overall harmonious but not outstanding in intensity or complexity. Rather a calm representative without big edges or corners.

The surprise sample in the colours of Rum tasting thanks Steffen 😀 It's a nice Caroni from 98, intense but not overwhelming. The dirty notes are there but slightly hidden. I like it very much.

Tasted at the 12th GRF, in the masterclass at Colours of Rum and presented by special guest Steffen "Caroni" Mayer: On the nose the classic Caroni profile, like many 98ers rather on the sweet side. On the palate then quite a bit of dirt, what we love about Caroni, but not too strong. Also some tobacco and green tea, which makes this Caroni somewhat special. Overall not enough for the top group, but still a very nice bottling from our lost favorite distillery.

The nose somehow doesn't grab me, but it could also be because the sample is a bit older. Overall slightly musty and slightly sour with fermented fruit. On the palate somewhat better, but I had hoped for a bit more here.

Smell is very rotten. I compare it to visiting an apple tree where the rotten apples are already lying on the ground. Taste is very deep and very herbal.

Hardly any Caroni workshop, reminds me more of St. Lucia, but otherwise round and quite exciting.
