One taster called it "smooth, but still with a bacterial side" — a good read on this 29-year Hampden. Ripe pineapple, banana and citrus lead, with glue, marzipan and toasted oak behind. Most find the 60.2% remarkably well tucked away. A few feel the cask and roasted, slightly bitter notes creep too far forward after time in the glass.

Most helpful positive review
Powerful Hampden with an intense ester charge and tropical fruit fullness. The nose is dominated by pineapple, citrus and a hint of glue, accompanied by subtle wood notes. Ripe banana, citrus fruits and a fine spiciness unfold on the palate, giving the rum depth. The alcohol is excellently integrated and ensures a long, harmonious finish. An impressive bottling that expressively presents the profile of Hampden.

A great Hampden. The alcohol is perfectly integrated here. It has a great estery nose with an incredible amount of citrus fruit. Great. The taste is incredibly soft and sparkling at the same time. Pleasantly long, slightly bacony finish.

How lucky can you be, three great rums in a row. Rested this one for 15+ minutes before giving it a go and what a go 😊 A lovely fruity Hampden with smoky wood and spices. There is a light funkiness on the nose and palate and the esters compliment the overall profile. The empty glass is also really nice after and hour or so.

The nose is very fruity with lots of ripe pineapple, other trop. Fruits, esters, wood, caramel, overall very inviting. The palate is beautifully intense with a good portion of ester, subtle glue, tropical fruit and barrel aromas. For me, one of the better 92 HDs.

A Hampden bottled by Nobilis, who have done a fine job in selecting the cask. This HLCF, aged partly in a continental climate, displays lovely fruity aromas on the nose, both exotic and very ripe (banana, pineapple and mango in particular), some citrus fruit and the famous phenolic notes typical of Jamaican funk. After aeration, a few pastry notes (marzipan) appear. On the palate, the rum has a heavy profile but is also very creamy, oily, almost chewy, and envelops the palate in exotic, funky, spicy, slightly roasted and floral flavors. The alcohol is barely perceptible. This concentration of flavors is reflected in a long, slightly tannic, smoky, spicy, pastry-like finish, as fruity and phenolic as ever, which will be hard to get rid of with toothpaste. This is obviously a very pleasant, very gourmand and aromatic rum, but one that will start to fall victim to speculation because of its undeniable qualities and, alas, its rarity.

Last sample from my Nobilis samplebox. On the nose: Overripe pineapples, esters, glue, woody notes and little bit of citrus notes. Jamaican rum notes with noticable aged feel to it. Taste: Overripe pineapples and bananas, esters, woody notes and little bit of citrus notes. Full bodied. At the end you get some pastry notes. Finish: Warm. Pineapples. Roasted, light smoky notes. Spicy. Light esters. Bacon notes in end Has to be one of the best HLCF mark rums that i have tasted and i really liked how the finish could bring notes like bacon to the palate.

Basically a nice old Hampden bringing subtle ester funkiness and beautiful fruits. Towards the end, a bit of the subtle bitterness of the cask comes through, which is absolutely within limits. The alcohol is super integrated, but despite everything I miss a bit for a higher rating. You can tell it was stored on the continent.

very round on the nose, hardly any funky ester notes (also 'only' HLCF Marque), but citrus and a note towards sour cream (?) On the palate also citrus, the 60.2% is not noticeable at all. The alcohol is excellently integrated. Toasted wood barrel on the finish. Overall, perhaps almost a bit too much wood and roasted flavors, but the Nobilis still gets a top score from me.

An insane bottling from Nobilis. Lots of pineapple on the nose, as well as other tropical fruits, esters, glue and a little wood. The same aromas on the nose; the pineapple is super present again. There are also spices and light smoky aromas. The finish is again primarily pineapple and esters. The alcohol is perfectly integrated!

Classic Hampden profile paired with woody bitterness and some spice. On the palate, unfortunately, without the charismatic, heavy sweetness notes that bring additional complexity, especially in the tropically aged High-Ester bottlings again. Nevertheless, a successful bottling.

Magnificent 1992 Hampden and the first that despite 5 more years in the cask can keep up with the CDI and Rum Nation 1992. Fully ripe sweet sour pineapple, roasted almonds, banana, buttery brioche, some olive brine and pleasant esters, as well as minimally smoky on the finish. Very cool! So far one of my favorite 1992 Hampdens! Very harmonious and a big surprise!

Really strong Hampden, has everything a Hampden needs. Again lots of tropical fruits, mainly banana and pineapple, of course also lots of esters, otherwise a little solvent. Alcohol hardly recognizable. Thanks to Basti for this one.

Blind tasting on 20.10.2024: Nice ester bomb, very likely Jamaica. Slight hints of yellow and green fruits. Probably didn't age very long in the cask. Alcohol well integrated. Tannins clearly noticeable on the palate. After reveal: The long cask aging was quite surprising.

Good, for sure. Very clear, as often with Jamaican rums aged continentally. But also a weak development of aromas other than the traditional ester/tropical fruits. Only a roasted and coffee side at the end of the mouth brings a bit of variety. A bit boring for me...

As suspected at the beginning, completely overpowering cask influence. In this case, HLCF can hardly compete. Fruity notes, which are definitely still noticeable at first, are completely overlaid by an earthy anise note after about half an hour. That’s really intense and makes the rum accordingly unbalanced and exhausting. Definitely not a bad rum, but personally I’m out.

A very nice nose on typical Jamaican (pineapple, ester, solvents) but surprisingly integrating a lot of citrus. Smells good! On the palate it's rich and very indulgent, with the same notes as on the nose with a roasted and smoky side. Beautiful bottle even if a bit bitter and lacking a bit of indulgence.

A very tasty and harmonious Hampden. Fruity, with pineapple, citrus fruits and some banana. Nice glue notes. The sweetness of marzipan. Just the right amount of wood. Very well integrated alcohol. No edges or corners, but not boring, just round.

Great Hampden HLCF with a full broadside of aromas. The nose is typical Hampden, full of fruit, esters and some wood. On the palate then a slight sweetness, and as always fruit fruit fruit. What more could one want.

An other strong Juice from Hampden. Fresh and light, yet at bit pointy and full of over ripe fruit and citrus in the nose. The taste palet is fruity, some strong acidity, dry barrel and a hefty 60,2% abv thats not perfect integrated, but packs a punch in a sexy way. Yet again as always the guys from Nobilis deliver great rum. Cheers!

04-04-2025 - Rate 9.2 15-03-2025 - Rate 9.2 Not first time tasting but first time rating. Great nose. Classic Hampden. Lots of fruit and some barrel/wood. Taste with a slight overweight of wood. Good integration between mark and ABV. Aftertaste the wood disappears and it’s a round taste of classic Hampden.

Delicious smell of marzipan and banana. Like a little cake with banana cream filling. Some caramel and a certain freshness and light wood. On the mouth then like oily wood, which reminds me of a ship's interior and a bit of orange. The finish initially smoky wood, which then turns into a floral tobacco. This floral tobacco aroma lasts very long. Great rum, very creamy-fruity nose. Palate and finish are quite different again, really fun. #36:260122

03/10/2026: tasted @ Salon du Rhum 2026. Yet another sublime bottling by Nobilis! A powerful, intense, fruity Hampden from a great vintage. Happy to have discovered and tasted this. Sadly it's way too expensive nowadays.
