Really awesome Beenleigh, maybe even one of the best on the market. Great value for money for Velier, actually pretty decent. The alcohol could be integrated a bit better, but it's a really cool & complex Australian rum, very floral & intense Williams pear note with lots of tannins. Update: today I taste and smell an incredible amount of grappa, calvados, and anise licorice (sambuca & ouzo) notes. Crazy. Pear, apple, grape marc, anise, licorice. Those are the core notes, I think.

Watery, alcoholic, pungent on the nose. The finish suggests that this rum must be older than its two partners. But in terms of taste, I cannot describe an independent profile.

Typical Australian profile with a great balance of fresh fruits like peach, apple, and pear, wood, and spices. Powerful on the palate but well balanced. Definitely one of the more convincing rums from Australia.

8,4:On the nose, the first impression we get is a bit like an agricole, with fresh sugar cane juice and pastry, floral and leather, a bit perfumed, roasted with burnt sugar. There are lots of overripe tropical fruit. Then some medicinal notes, we feel spices and salt. When aired a bit, there is a creamy toffee, vanilla, dried fruits, caramelized yellow bourbon fruits and citrus, as becomes a bit acidic. We cannot miss some tea notes also. Nicely balanced.... 7,8:On the palate, the attack is strong and spicy with pepper, with citrus, apple, becomes quickly woody, dry and salty.There is some menthol, estery overripe fruits, as pineapple, caramelized, vanilla and leather. Some bourbon yellow fruits are also close. After some rest, tannins arise, the rum is musty a bit or minimally mineral, there are dried fruits, the darker side shows with licorice, maybe chocolate. There is a bit of imbalance. 8:The finish is long, woody with leather, quite dry, there are tannins, fruits..

A rum as exotic as its origin. The olfactory profile is complete with many diverse aromas: tropical fruit, dried fruit, pear, apple and citrus (orange) give the fruity side, while wood brings a spicy influence (pepper, chili, vanilla) as well as a tinge of leather and tobacco. Caramel, marzipan and butter provide the gourmand side, while medicinal notes are represented by glue and a charming floral edge. A rather rich and elegant profile. The attack on the palate is progressive, with spices (vanilla, pepper, chili, liquorice, aniseed), leather, tobacco and oak from the cask. There's a fresh, vegetal, earthy side that's a little smothered in the mass. The same applies to the fruit, notably dried and exotic fruits, apricot and pear. The profile is round and pleasant on the palate, quite voluptuous. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish, slightly less fruity, concentrates on floral and vegetal notes, spices (cinnamon, pepper), leather, wood and a touch of caramel. It leaves a long, fragrant and attractive memory. For those unfamiliar with Australian rums, this Beenleigh should make them agree on the undeniable quality of the terroir.

2015 / 2013 / 2006 side-by-side from the freshly opened bottles. While I have to admit, that Australia isn’t my favorite origin, the both younger bottlings really aren’t my cup of tea. Rather sharp and alcohol forwards. Citrus, apples, pear are dominating. Same is true for the 2006. Here the overall balance is much better, however. While the 2006 is enjoyable, I’m no fan of the younger one. That is from the open bottle. As with past experience in this side-by-side, the Bennleighs improve significantly after a couple of weeks in the opened bottle. 2013 and 2006 show much more rich fruits and a more balanced profile with significant less sting. Easily +0.5 points after some oxidation. The 2015 just remains underwhelming. Better than before but still sharp and not really pleasant imho.

Though this one is good I had expected more from this one because of the longer aging. Unfortunately it is only a bit over par compared to the 2015. Still a good rum with nice spices and barrel topped off with fruit and coffee/tobacco and a hint of flowers. Again a rum that was sold out very fast.

VSGB 🥰Nose: compared to the 2015 significantly less pear, more in the direction of lemon and green apple with a nice step towards tropical fruits, such as papaya. Also comes first a clear fruit vinegar note, then again the vanilla and slightly milk chocolate. Out the back again more pear.On the palate much fuller and rounder than his younger brother. Fruity and spicy at the same time. A bit more towards orange peel and papaya at first. Quite light, pleasantly bitter. Spicy with some vanilla and nutmeg. Goes even slightly towards hazelnut. In addition, there is something slightly herbal like saffron and black tea. In the back, the typical pear comes through here again.This one I find more compact and beautiful than the 2015. A really nice Beenleigh.

Alcohol is not so well integrated. Needs some time in the glass. Has nice apple and pear notes and is significantly more harmonious compared to the 2015 bottling. Not bad, but nothing great either. In my opinion, there are better bottlings from Beenleigh.

Australia Artur’s Advent calendar day 17. A refined nose with the Beenleigh markers: yellow fruits, cedar wood, and vegetal notes but better blended and balanced. The first palate is beautiful, full, and aromatic, then unfortunately a dry, alcoholic, and woody side takes over. The finish is rather long but lacks the balance and aromatic richness of the nose.

I had heard mixed opinions about these Australian rums and this is the first time I have tasted one! A really intense rum with a beautiful fruity and floral part, the spices accompany the whole tasting in a balanced way! Perfectly integrated wood and I was impressed by the warm and really long finish! I will definitely try more of these now!

The nose is difficult to grasp. Very complex. First fruit, a hint of solvent and then a beautiful, powdery cocoa note. This is followed by a bed of roses and vanilla. And that is by no means all. The alcohol is well integrated. In the mouth, a little meatier and a little smoky bacon. Full and warm, but doesn't taste particularly good. Certainly a well-made rum that breaks new ground. Interesting, but there are better things. The hype surrounding it has passed me by...

In contrast to the 2015, much more elegant, riper, softer... the alcohol is perfectly integrated! Both bottlings have something... Personally, I prefer the slightly more angular 2015! They are on the same level for me! Both very good A second tasting today: I let it breathe longer this time and it brought out much more subtle flavors...it seems much more complex and elegant now! 1. Tasting: took only a short sip, but i am pleased by it so far. A bit of water seemed to change its character completely, this needs some more experimentation. 2. Tasting: it starts really pleasant, there is sweetness and fruit. However, I had a really strong sour off-putting aftertaste. The sour mouthfeel was really something breaking the experience, so I have to distract a point, despite the beginning being so good.

Powerful Beenleigh with a deep, warm profile. Toffee, vanilla, spice and ripe fruit on the nose, accompanied by a slightly leathery note. Full-bodied and harmonious on the palate with dark chocolate, wood and dried fruit, supported by a fine sweetness. The alcohol is well integrated and lends structure. The finish is long, spicy and elegantly dry. A complex, excellently matured Australian with classic Velier precision.

Now a great Beenleigh. Nose very fruity, especially tropical and dried fruits. Also, it is very spicy. On the palate, also mainly fruity, with the spices joined by wood. Alcohol very well integrated.

I preferred this one to the 2015. It's more balanced, less floral, more on the "classic" notes of a rum of this age (leather, dried fruit, caramel). But it's still not a very good rum, so I must say I'm a little disappointed.

On the nose, some fruit but also some spice. Reminds me a bit of a Calvados. It needs some time in the air (about 20-30 minutes), then it opens nicely and convinces with aromas of pear, green apple, and a bit of cinnamon. Nicely oily on the palate. A bit of water doesn't necessarily help and takes away some of that nice oiliness. The finish is medium length, the rum fades nicely on the palate. I can't understand the partly bad ratings; for me, this is not overly complex but still a really round and successful bottling.

Nice fruity pear nose. Very pleasant. Very accessible taste. Compared to the other two Beenleighs, the softest. Already fruity with a pinch of leather. The finish also lingers for a while. Corrected upwards easily in the night tasting.

Together with DomM, tried the three Velier Beenleigh from the good small bottles. My first impression: not everything with Velier on it is good inside. The St. James series was already a flop, and for me, the Beenleigh series follows seamlessly. Maybe I just don't understand this profile or have no taste, but all were too alcoholic with a bitter (not pleasant) aftertaste. The 2006 was a bit better than the other two, but not by much.

Meh, a bit disappointed. I've drunk other rums from this distillery that were much better. It's not bad either, you find the classic markers, but it's not transcendent. It's better than the 2015.

For 59% in the aroma alcohol a tad noticeable, flowers sweet orange, fruit caramel-melasses with a hint of cookie in the taste persevered wooden apricot sweet, fruit and vanilla coconut and spices.

Quite a rich profile of apricot, fruits, leather, spice and oak. Meanwhile at the top of the palate there is a whisky-type aspect to it. The finish is long, and holds the spice, black tea and apricot.

Nose: Diesel, pear, raisin, leather, acetone, ripe banana, coconut, brown sugar, beeswax Mouth: Cherry, menthol, ripe banana, apple, citrus, slightly medicinal, ginger, hazelnut, chocolate Finish: The flavour hangs on for quite a while before ending in a nice warm lengthy finish I'm very impressed with this bottle. The notes really stand out easily and it is so flavourful and complex. I feel like I could easily discover more notes with future tastings. It's absolutely delicious. There is this fruity funk reminiscent of Jamaican rums but without many of the more intense industrial notes. That might sound like a negative for some Jamaica fans who love that heavy hit, but it doesn't mean this rum isn't interesting or lacking at all. Quite the contrary. This is a truly great rum.

06/01/2026: tasting at home. I haven't tasted a whole lot of Australian rums up until now, but this has to be one of the best yet. Floral, fresh tasting with so much pear and apple notes. Definitely the best out of the three Velier Beenleighs.

Not my cup of tea as the English say. A rum that didn't blow me away. I found it quite “hard” on the palate. Good fruity notes but otherwise in my opinion too rough. A good nose that I don't find on the palate.

Cross-tasting of the three Velier bottlings (06, 13, 15) On the nose, this bottling is very powerful, with riper fruit aromas and distinct wood notes. In color, this bottling is the darkest. The alcohol seems not very well integrated here. On the palate, tropical fruits, wood and spice notes, and some ester dominate. For me, the worst bottling that evening.
