This evening, blind tasting. No difficulties on the nose (woody aromas, a touch of mint and a hint of tar and citrus peel) confirmed by the mouth: it will be a TDL. On the other hand, I was surprised because I didn't expect this one! Very nice bottling from Ferrand to discover the tdl a bit dirty but not too much, and at a great price. Really very successful. Thanks Michael for the sample👍😉

#4078 A pretty nice release and a well balanced one at the same time. Fruity with nice spices and well integrated ABV. I really like the light minty and floral note in the profile. The empty glass reveals some coffee and nuts.

After yesterday's cross-tasting with various T.D.L.s, I have to realistically revise my rating from November last year (90 points) downwards by 10 points. It is still a very good rum, but compared to others it seems downright cheap, watery, artificially sweetened (but it is not!!) and has a much shorter finish. As I said, in direct comparison to other T.D.L.s, e.g. from CDI or Samaroli, which are at least one class higher anyway (also in terms of price) - in this respect an almost unfair comparison ... New conclusion: Still a very successful, honest daily sipper with great value for money and a cannabis note on the palate😉, especially recommended in summer.

I've wanted to rate this rum so many times and couldn't quite bring myself to do it. I had expected more and was somewhat disappointed. I don't think it's bad, but it's not convincing either. Compared to the LMDR#4, which I tasted at the same time, the Plantation OTL falls noticeably short. The OTL is a little mintier, but overall cleaner, sweeter, thinner and less complex. Tropical and yellow stone fruit on the nose. The aromas are already similar to the LMDR#4, but much more restrained. The difference is even more pronounced in the mouth. The OTL is again lighter, thinner, sweeter and the alcohol is less well integrated. The aroma remains with the typical markers, the almond, which the 2002s also have in part, is also present here. The rum has brought the unique TDL profile closer to a wide audience, showing that it doesn't always have to be chocolate-caramel. The PLV is pretty good. I would always prefer the LMDW#4.

Not overly fruity on the nose, but buttery and sweet. Depth and supportive wood. The palate is both sweet, with very well-integrated alcohol, and aromatic with tropical fruit, yellow fruit (peach) and black tea. The finish is moderately long, slightly more bitter and tannic than the mid-palate. With lovely citrus fruit.

Tried at home last night. The mint is of course clearly recognizable, we also have tropical fruits, as well as vanilla caramel and a slight spice. Not completely bad, but there are far better T.D.L's.

Nose: seems quite fresh and young, slightly biting and alcoholic at the beginning. This is followed by an intense tropical fruitiness with fresh lime and sweet lemon. Reminiscent of juicy flat peach. But in parallel it is also quite sweet, sugar syrup with candied orange peel. Slightly tobaccoy at the back and distinctly vinegary. Also gets a bit woodier towards the end.Palate: quite fruity here too, but spicier. Comes off quite dry and thus seems slightly salty. Sweetly tart due to lemon and tangerine and distinctly sweet and tart as if from ripe gooseberries. Something green, fresh, minty follows. At the end some fruit bread with candied orange peel and freshly cut branches, tea and anise on the finish.Not bad at all. Better on the palate than on the nose. Upscale average with good PLV.

Nose: spicy, sweet, minty and nice fruity. Palate: great balance between sweet and dry, fresh and woody. Find the rum quite accessible. Slightly alcoholic on the finish, but that doesn't bother. Good PLV.

Le nez est très discret pour un TDL et il ne paye pas de mine. Un léger eucalyptus, un peu de fruits exotiques tutti frutti. Quelques framboises écrasées apparaissent timidement avec aussi du jus de raisin. Le tout est assez simple, bien qu'un peu de bois de santal vienne surprendre. En bouche, c'est l'explosion ! Fruits rouges à outrance, du menthol mais sans aller sur de la menthe verte, de la pêche bien mûre. C'est aussi un peu épicé, sur du piment doux, mais c'est sa grande fraîcheur qui lui apporte une dimension glouglou surprenante. L'alcool passe bien. La finale est moyenne + On garde cette fraîcheur un moment avec beaucoup de fruité. Un boisé jeune ferme la marche.

Beau produit de la maison Ferrand comme à son habitude. Mention spéciale pour le dosage 0 ! Un premier nez porté sur l’amande-frangipane, au second nez la pêche est bien présente puis viennent les fruits exotiques. La bouche est vive, l’attaque est fraîche à l’image du nez. Je sens une légère amertume pas désagréable en fin de bouche. Les 51,8% sont bien intégrés, le finale est plutôt moyenne.

After the bottle has gotten a bit emptier after the first tastings, it somehow seems less fruity to me, instead more towards dirty-minty. The grape-cognac notes and the fine almond are still there, but now a bit more subtle in the background. On the palate it pleases with a roasted spiciness paired with mandarin. I also appreciate the new transparency on the label, no added sugar, and overall, for 60 EUR you get quite decent rum for the money! Cheers to the red ibis (native to the Caroni swamps) 😉

ABV is very well integrated on this one. On nose, firstly little sharp then pleasant floral notes. On palatte it is very tasty, notes of mint. It draws nice curtains on the glass. Very pleasant Trinidad from this one time Plantation edition.

A very complex fruit explosion on the nose, mouth and palate. Refreshing citrus, still some peach and strawberry. Becomes a bit sweeter over time instead of sour, rather salty on the finish. Overall, a nice flavor journey.

Measured at the price a quite successful rum..the nose pleases me with the fresh fruit and the mint quite well! On the palate and in the finish, however, he then falls off significantly...too mild, soft and gentle he comes along, somehow missing with a clear line here!

1er verre de la bouteille. Nez très fruité, une pointe mentholé et épicé avec un caoutchouc/goudron en fond (léger) ça donne envie . Bouche fruité (tropicaux) et épicé, on retrouve un goudron léger qui se mêle à de l'ananas et un caramel au beurre qui laissera revenir le petit mentholé avec lequel il se melangera pour la finale. Viens ensuite le côté iodé et enfin un retour du caoutchouc tardif. Très très bon ! Excellent rapport qualité/prix à voir quand la bouteille se sera un peu vidée/aérée.

The nose is very pastry-like: vanilla and almond! But also fruity: tangerine-pineapple! Some aromas of mint and woodiness stand out. It's successful and charming. On the palate, it's dense and dry! You find the exotic fruit salad from the nose and spices. All topped with a very pleasant petrol touch. The finish is slightly tart and slightly stings the tongue. There's a little menthol and iodine effect that lingers in the mouth. The length is more than respectable on the woodiness for this kind of budget! Nice TDL with a rather well-achieved Q/P ratio for 60€!

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: On the nose, the rum shows itself traditionally. Fruity with a touch of vanilla, oak, a bit of mint, and a hint of spice. All of this could be a bit more direct. On the palate, the rum starts very fruity with orange and a pleasant sweetness. Some wood notes come in, then pleasant but dominant tobacco notes with a bit of smoke set in, shaping the spicy finish. Wood notes remain and are noticeable for a medium length. Bought for 49 euros in a local shop, that's a lot of rum. So far, I found the One Time Limited series too tame. This rum now has a bit more character. The tobacco notes are wonderfully integrated and enhance the rum.

Amai what a difference from yesterday's single cask, this time no added sugars!The flavor profile for me is very much in the direction of sweet pastry, almond and marzipan.I enjoyed this with a nice piece of cake.Ps: the smell left in the glass: sweet tobacco24/07: took this one back and tasted it more consciously. Cognac influences noticeable and some fresh notes. Some sharpness from the alcohol, but not overpowering. At the very end hint of tobacco. Fruitier than I remember.

A good fruity TDL (tropical fruits like passion fruit), orchard fruit (peach), lots of marzipan, nice Cognac notes (grape and rancio), fine spices (vanilla, clove). I have the impression of drinking the New Grove 10 years (42°) but in the 51.8 degrees version, it's nice. However, it's hard to find the menthol and tar, although tar is very slightly present, because what takes over is the fruity and marzipan aspect. The woodiness is very fine and light, and mainly gives a good taste of rancio 😁 The finish is long on fine woodiness (rancio), vanilla and a smoky aspect. If you're looking for a fruity TDL, jump on the chance, but I doubt you'll find the 2009 vintage from Plantation. If you're looking for a heavy TDL, move on.

Advent 2024 ... Distillery TDL produces beautiful delicate mint rums. Unfortunately, mint is not always the main representative in the taste, but you will always find a trace of it in TDL rums. One of the rums you must taste in your life to have a complete overview of flavors from the rum world. No other distillery produces rums with a mint flavor.

#1707 31-12-2025 - Rate 7.2 For some reason I’m always a bit pessimistic about Plantation(Planteray) bottlings, when they are not cask strength or high ABV. Nose of tropical fruits, vanilla, wood and spice. Palate follows the nose pretty well with a hint of black tea. Short finish dominated by wood and black tea.

Not great, not terrible, but still very drinkable. I would say the taste and finish is too bitter for me and the nose too alcoholic (even after aerination for more than 20 minutes). Surprisingly I could find slight minty notes in the background. Looking forward to give this a try in some cocktails.

On the nose, there are notes of solvent, tropical fruits, red fruits, nectarine, vanilla, and a slight woodiness. On the palate, the fruits, woodiness, and vanilla are confirmed. There is also a slight 'garage' side. It's not the first time I've found this subtle diesel note on a 2009. The finish is carried by the fruits and woodiness. A very nice product for the price. €66 at the wine merchant. Excellent!
