Worthy Park 109 Jamaica Rum

Cocktail builders and Jamaican-funk fans on a budget are the real audience here. Expect overripe banana, cola, caramelized sugar and smoky oak, with pot-still esters running through it. One taster nailed it: "a baked banana in liquid form." At 54.5% the alcohol shows, and a few find it wood-heavy and a bit bitter neat, but it shines in a glass.

for 35€ the liter an absolute PLV firecracker! makes an absolutely horny corn'n'oil by the way!on the nose comes dark, smoky malt beer and a lot of cola, as well as demerara sugar to the fore and some dark berries, pineapple and burnt wood.taste the alcohol is really surprisingly well integrated and tastes intensely of malt, cola and licorice, as well as esters, red berries and papaya.... then in the finish burnt wood, malt, cardamom and bitter licorice, as well as peach and creme brúlée. very good!

Very nice, woody rum from WP. Good price-quality ratio though lacks complexity. It's profile is dominated by wood and has no fruits or esters that I have anticipated. I need to try this on a cocktail.

This Pot Still rum is a blend of rums that’s consisting of unaged rum as well as rum aged for up to 3 years. Overall it’s a great high esters, funky and well balanced rum with heavy flavors. The nose is fresh and fruity. At palate it’s quite heavy, funky and oaky.

71 points. Probably unbeatable at this price and very good as a mixer but not really that good pure. I get a lot of wood and caramel, the alcohol isn’t well integrated but at this price one can’t really complain.

Looking at the price tag you actually get a lot for your money. On the other hand I think this rum will be a favourite among the Tiki drinkers put there or for other mixers. The nose is fruity with burnt caramel, smoky wood and light tea. The palate is sweet and fruity with caramel, roasted wood and light petrol notes. The finish is medium long with roasted wood and caramel. This one has a very dominant caramel from start to finish.

For the price range exciting finish, evolves from malty bitterness to a creamy sweetness (crème brûlée-like) and at the very end comes some salt liquorice.

Actually bought as a mix rum, but it is almost too bad for that. A mixture of Esterrum with the typical Worthy Park fruit basket and in addition rather sweet, mildly fruity rum.

They really are as good as and in many cases, so much better than a lot of the more popular, more established brands. This is another rum that can easily compete alongside the competition and even cut its own path? Whilst it has a lot in common with a lot...

Worthy Park

Avg Rating 8.0/10 over 360 Rums

Worthy Park is Jamaica's true cane-to-glass estate. Its land was granted in 1670, it runs the island's oldest and most efficient sugar factory, and it makes rum from molasses it produces itself. After falling silent in 1962, the distillery was rebuilt from scratch in 2005 and now bottles some of the most respected modern estate rum in the Caribbean.
