Small Herzogenaurach tasting in Flo's cellar: Good example that Caroni on the label doesn't guarantee a good rum. Comes across quite thin, only slightly dirty. The finish covers everything, as if trying to spruce up sub-optimal base material. The slight dirty notes on the nose only come after a longer time in the glass, when the sherry notes slightly fade. But I should give the rum a second chance when my sense of smell is fully restored.

Tasting some Caronis from Bristol. Alcohol and sherry cask on the nose with raisin notes. The palate is lively but not alcoholic like the nose. The finish is long, slightly sweet with a nice acidic/bitter touch. At the very end, like a taste of nillon (the residue after pressing walnut oil). A very interesting rum, unfortunately too diluted for my taste.

The sherry is very dominant on this not so typical Caroni. I'd say that the ABV is a bit unbalanced on the palate. The nose is fruity with sherry a lot os sherry actually, vanilla, tar, caramel and light wood. The palate is again dominated by sherry trailed by fruits, tar, caramel and smoky wood. The finish is medium long with fruits, wood and light tar.

Strong Caroni, even though it's quite diluted, still pretty good. Tar is still clearly noticeable, thankfully the sherry is only faint. Otherwise, it's relatively woody and caramel can also be detected.

Bristol Caroni comparison: Hmm, rather too sherry-heavy. I like the profile with whisky, but too dominant with rum. The CaronibProil only manages to assert itself to a limited extent, because the industrial markers are there. Not bad, but not my cup of tea.

My first Caroni under 50%. On the nose it promises a lot of classic Caroni (wood, roasted notes, tar), combined with fruit, probably from the sherry. On the tongue unfortunately reserved and a bit thin. Certainly ideal for Caroni beginners, but I had hoped for more "Caroni" on the tongue based on the nose.

Very enjoyable sipper. The nose is dominant with sweet sherry, which I love. Behind these heavy curtains you get a hint of tar. The palate switches things around, Caroni profile is much more present, maybe not so much rubber or bike inner tube, but tar, smoke, minerality, wood, then sherry comes in. It does lack intensity, but you can compensate that by taking bigger sips. Which is also nice as you never really get any burn or alcohol notes.

Very dominant sherry profile, the Caroni aroma remains recognizable but clearly recedes into the background. A drinkable release that has a lot of sweetness thanks to the finish, but gets an exciting counterpart with the intensity of the dirty Caroni spectrum. Exciting, independent, but limited in its expression.

This one is so good 😋 Love the cherry influence and the long finish. It also has some smokeyness in the taste. I'm also a huge whisky lover and this one would be a perfect malternative. Great stuff, love it.
