Worthy Park Special Cask Series Port 2010
Sipping neat is where most people meet this one, and the port cask does a lot of the talking: red fruits, grape, caramel and a nutty, oxidative edge over Worthy Park's tropical fruit. Several tasters find the spice pushes hard and the body reads a bit watery, wishing it had been bottled at higher strength. Easy-going for a Jamaican, with a dry, black-tea finish.

Aggregated from 71 community reviews.
Port-forward Jamaican, gentle but a bit thin Well-liked as a gentle, port-forward Jamaican, but opinions cool over balance: many call it too diluted and a touch spicy or sour, saying it deserved a higher strength.

I'm liking this one a lot. Probably because it's not too funky as some other Jamaicans 😅 A nice sweetness but also with a slight bittef twist to it. The port is there but not overpowering the taste imo. Very easy to drink as well.

Like WP reserve, I couldn´t find almost no difference. It is softer....

30.03.2022 Sampling a bit at home. Notes Medium to dark in colour. Nose Fresh, sweet, light medicinal, light roasted wood, banana, faint honey. Palate Fresh, light, light oily, honey, light medicinal, faint herbs, dried fruit, light herbs. Finish Medium long, light, fruity, light roasted wood, naturally sweet, light herbs, raisin, faint banana.

On the nose, there's still a clear hint of Port, but on the palate the spices really kick in hard, and despite the reduction to (higher-end) drinking strength, the rum has a fairly pronounced sharpness. In the finish, a somewhat medicinal-mineral note joins in. Overall interesting, because the rum is already quite expressive aromatically, but unfortunately it remains a bit unbalanced. For me, it falls behind the sister bottling with Madeira finish.

Good for gently introducing Jamaican rums. Interesting nose involving several solvents but not aggressive, with a background of red fruits. On the palate it's good, you can clearly taste the port finish but overall it's quite watery. A lesser reduction would have been preferable. A very pleasant rum overall, as always with Worthy Park.

On the nose: Port cask influence is clearly present. Red fruits/grapes and tannings. Nutty notes and caramel noted. Light woody note and light medicinal note in the background. Taste: Light and diluted. Red fruits. Roasted. Light woody notes. Light spice notes like cinnamon. Black tea notes come in the end. Finish: Black tea. Light fruits. Finishes with quite dry and mineral mouthfeel. It clearly has this "watered down" taste to it, this rum should have been bottled in its natural strenght. I also detected some unbalanceness. I guess this would be good rum for beginners.

Anyone familiar with Worthy Park Single Estate Reserve knows what to expect here. The port wine cask rounds off the taste once again, but is not clearly recognizable to my palate. Let's chalk it up as a successful understatement.

Solid Port cask finished Jamaican!

Good, but unfortunately a bit thin

The finish of this rum gives it an interesting and delicious color that is found on the nose. With these markers of port and oxidation (nuts, etc.). On the palate, it is less warm, even if it remains very pleasant. It is less refined and charming and much more direct, almost burning. It's a shame that the finish is quite short and blunt, but it's still quite respectable for a 10-year-old, especially since I'm not usually a big fan of WP distillery juices.

The last pour of the bottle isn't quite how I remember it a few weeks ago sadly. Not quite as port forward. Nose is fairly mild. Some wine notes. Banana. Flavor is mellow with some spice and wine. Finish is nice. Dry and long. Leaves you wanting another sip.

Slightly better than the Madeira cask expression but not as good as the Reserve.

Nice WP well marked by the Porto cask. Porto is very present on the nose and palate. Light woody and toasty notes on the palate, slight solvents, WP markers on exotic fruits, with lots of red fruits (grenadine syrup) as well, almost deserving a few more degrees. Some not too spicy spices on the finish.

12.6.2024 I can smell a slight coolness from the port barrel. The taste after drinking is delicate, and after swallowing, I feel a tingling sensation.

From the fruit basket strongly in the direction of citrus. Sweet fruits hardly present. The tropical maturation lifts the rum clearly from the continental matured WP. The port finish is extremely present here and unfortunately rolls down the WP fruit basket somewhat.

The aroma and taste are very reminiscent of port and red wine, with the rum taking a back seat.

Vintage 2010. I rate it 7.8 out of 10, a solid rum that doesn’t disappoint.
Review by Richard Krupa
The aroma is weak, but the taste is pleasantly sweet. For me, second place in the WP tasting set.

Friends of port wine will get their money's worth here. A bit too sour for me.
