Orange peel, almond and soft oak lead this Guadeloupe blend of molasses and cane juice, aged 12 years in ex-bourbon oak. It's dry and balanced with hints of caramel, chocolate and pepper — but nearly everyone says the same thing: at 42% it drinks too light. One taster wished for a "higher ABV," and several find it fades fast on the finish.

Slot #4 in my 2025 Advent Calendar. This rum from the Damoiseau distillery in Guadeloupe is a 50/50 molasses and sugar cane based blend. It’s aged American oak ex-bourbon barrels. The nose is woody, fruity and nutty with scents of orange and almonds. At the palate it’s complex, sweet, woody, fruity, roasted, spicy, nutty and dry with flavors of orange, peppers and bitter almonds. The finish is medium long, woody, spicy, fruity and dry.

Good rum, but leaves me wanting more. Not enough depth, not enough fruitiness. Balanced, but lacks a bit of bite.

The first thing that comes to mind with this rum is that it's too light. It has been diluted far too much and I would have loved a higher ABV. It's still fresh and has the Damoiseau flavours; fruity vanilla and light wood. There is also a nice hint of caramel and chocolate. Price to quality is can be discussed :-)

Pleasant but for me very non-specific scent. Maybe a vanilla pudding with compote. The flavour is pleasant, hints of earthiness and fruit, but it feels too diluted and I could stand a much higher abv. Almost no finish.
