Sipped neat and given time to breathe, this is classic Caroni: rubber, tar and petrol that "creeps across the table," with black tea, dark chocolate, coffee and a sweet molasses-and-date undertone softening the industrial edge. At 60.3% it burns, so let it open. Tasters call it opulent and surprisingly floral and fruity underneath the dirt — one of the better 1997s people have poured.

9,3:On the nose, rubber and tar, dirty, varnish, sweet molasses with honey, earthy with tobacco, roasted wood notes like dark chocolate, caramel, coffee, banana, mango, dried and citrus fruits, bump into our nosetrils, complex, yet balanced. On aeration, roasted nuts, nougat arise, meaty touch, the wood is spicy, dried dates, raisins are obvious, industrial notes like petrol, bicycle tube, menthol. 9,1:On the palate, the attack is industrial with rubber and tar, bicycle tube, petrol and menthol hints, dirty, wood is roasted with caramel, dark chocolate, espresso, nuts, burnt, spicy with allspice, salty, barrel impact is strong, fruity with dried apricots, raisins and dates, as molasses is earthy with tobacco, dark with black tea. 9,1:The finish is long, dry&tannic, industrial with rubber and petrol, fruity with citrus, dried and tropical fruits, oak is roasted with caramel, nuts, dark chocolate, espresso, spicy with baking spices, black pepper, barrel impact is strong, molasses is earthy with tobacco. I've had quite a wide range (79 - 89 points) with the 97 Caronis I've tasted so far. The BBR is definitely very high up there. On the nose there are already some dirty notes, but also dried fruit, butterscotch and yellow fruit. Workshop, burnt rubber, black tea on the palate. But all somehow very 'harmonious'. Long aftertaste! A real competitor to the Mayor, Thompson Krake and blog a Roger!

First plenty of Fisherman's Friends, it needs time to breathe. Nice Caroni aroma. Rubber, condom, tar in abundance. Little wood, little fruit (🥭). Very nice!! It burns quite a bit in the mouth. Lots of pepper and lemon. 🍋 Nice spice on the finish. Very good 97 Caroni. Not for the faint-hearted. 🔥

A great Caroni though very expensive. The tar and rubber are there from opening the bottle and just creeps across the table taking you into Caroni heaven. Lightly fruity with a touch of chocolate and caramel. I love the super long finish.

Verdict: Nose: smoke and petrol, but quite decent. Black tea, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, brown sugar, syrup, baking spice. Date, tobacco, leather. Palate: honeyed, sweet, mild on petrol, dark sugar, leather, chocolate and coffee, black tea, tamarind, pepper, cinnamon, date. Finish: dry and sweet at the same time. Quite some chocolate, espresso, spice, but also syrup, date. Then black tea and petrol, a hint of smoke.

Nice soft sweet gummy notes on the nose. On the palate, an extremely easy-drinking affair. Very nice complexity. Really a great Caroni. Also lingers very long on the finish. I'm impressed.

2:0 today IB vs Velier! (see my rating for RX10732 of today) Apart from the „typical“ Caroni flavors it’s surprisingly floral. Herbal, nuty, fruity, all intense but extremely well balanced, an opulent rum opera. Buy!
