"A weird Caroni," a few tasters call it — and that's the whole story here. Instead of the usual dirty tar-and-ashtray blast, this 23-year-old leans floral and fruity, with dried plum, burnt sugar, roasted almond and a wilted mint note. The rubber and earth show up with air, but softer than most. At 65.2% it drinks surprisingly relaxed.

04.10.2025 Retasting at the Nobilis Warehouse Tasting #3 and I still find it really good. --------- This was a whole different story. A more fruity Caroni, still pretty well balanced though lighter in the traditional Caroni flavours.

For the ABV mega relaxed Caroni. Good alcohol integration. Good profile, not 0815 but nothing extraordinary. On the palate it falls slightly.

#11th dec RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: woody, tar, dirty, spicy Mouth: agricole, grass, toasted, rosted almonds, barrel, oak Finish: long, barrel, oak, dry, tannins, astringent It’s a untypical, strange caroni 🤪It’s OK, but didn’t blow my mind. The alcohol isn’t integrated well and the price tag way toooo high. Buuh looks like a crazy agricole in a Caroni barrel. My prediction Guadeloupe. ca.60% approx. 20 Years

Typical Caroni nose but more on plastic than tar, on the palate it's intense and tasty, complex and evolves with aeration, you go through meat, brown sugar, glue and finish the meal with a good cigar. A very nice success 👌👌 We want more ❤

For Caroni, a relatively mild nose. The dirt and tar are found under a nice layer of dried fruits and caramel. On the palate, initially alcoholic sharpness and again a nice mix of dirt, dried fruits, and caramel. The aftertaste is medium length. Overall a rather mild Caroni, due to the alcoholic sharpness "only" in the lower 80s range.

A lovely Caroni, which is appropriately dirty on the nose, with fruity, woody, spicy notes and a floral touch forming a complete aromatic bouquet. An earthy, agricultural note comes after aeration, which is very disconcerting. In the mouth, it's intense, driven by empyreumatic notes, spices, dried fruit, wood, leather and some bewitching smoked meat notes. The long, dry finish is a little bitter, spicy, minty and roasted, with a hint of berry and agricultural flavors on the long finish. An original yet complete and elegant Caroni. A fine piece of work from Excellence Rhum.

Very pleasing and fruity Caroni - in a positive sense. Instead of the typical dirt-slinging, one is greeted here by a very round, pastry-like spirit. On the palate, however, quite dry and with slight bacon associations. I actually like it very much!

Sehr speziell, ganz anders, da es ein LTR ist. Keine typischen Caroni Noten. Eher blumig, fruchtig, geht in Richtung Bellevue. Gut rum, aber kein Caroni.

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing rum at the height of its fame that was added in a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. The distillery stopped production and was closed in 2000. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die." I recommend it, Caroni is truly a unique rum.

Tasted in the RumX Advent calendar. Good rum with a great nose. On the palate, it doesn't convince me compared to other 98 Caronis. I was even unsure in the blind tasting if it really was one.

At first, it seems like you have an Agricole in the glass, but after some time the Caroni profile comes through. Initially fruity, roasted, and round, it becomes drier and woodier in the finish. I remember the s.b.s I tasted recently somewhat better.

RumX Advent calendar 11.12. My Caroni experience is definitely still expandable. Still, this one comes across surprisingly vegetal, especially a wilted mint note is consistently present. On the nose quite relaxed: tropical fruits, wood and a gum note that gets stronger with air contact. In the mouth, roasted-spicy, somewhat vegetal and gum. I haven't had many Caronis yet, but this one doesn't really convince me in comparison.

RumXmas 2022 #11, blind: Something dirty (rubber) but also vegetal impressions on the back of my palate, going up through the nose Seriously messing with my head to figure it out. ABV 55-60%? Ok weird Caroni, not as clear as others. This blind tasting stuff is wild 😅 65,2% but relatively easy on the palate. The dirty side is there but not as powerful. Half an hour was short for this drop, but it was nice. I enjoyed it with haste. Time to go home and put the daughter to bed.

My RumRating Review 3y ago: In the nose it is immediately clear what kind of rum is in the glass. Strong but well balanced, the typical dirty tar notes come and combine with woody nutty barrel notes. Some sweetness and fruit also resonates. The nose is absolutely top. On the palate, the 65.2% are very well integrated. Aromas are spread intensively in the mouth. The rum shows a great body. Complex come the Caroni typical tar and ashtray notes and combine with a fine fruit note, a hint of chocolate and some nut. The wood shapes the finish a little more and the earthy Caroni notes persist for a long time. An absolutely great high quality rum with sadly a high price. If you are looking for a dirty Caroni, this is the right place for you.

Caroni 1998 cross-tasting: Stands out because this is not a Heavy but a Light Caroni. On the nose with a somewhat floral-fruity note that I associate with young Guadeloupe rums; on the palate pleasantly balanced, round profile, subtle fruits, appealing sweetness. A great rum that has nothing to do with the known Caroni style.
