Anyone chasing that old Trinidad "TDL DNA" — the dirty, oily style with a whisper of Caroni — will find a lot to like here. Passion fruit and fresh mint lead, wrapped in leather, tar, burnt sugar and a medicinal, iodine edge. At 59.1% the alcohol sits surprisingly quiet. Long, minty finish. A couple of tasters found the tail slightly metallic.

Interesting Trinidad rum with distinctive aromatics. On the nose dry fruits, leather and a subtle smokiness. On the palate spices, wood and a hint of licorice, accompanied by a fine bitterness. The alcohol is powerful but well integrated. Overall complex and full of character, with a slightly tart note that fits well with the structure.

A somewhat strange nose. Lots of white chocolate and spices, a bit of peach and caramel. Reminds me a lot of the TDL Tamosi 2000. The palate is a bit better. Still white chocolate, spices, peach, chili and a bit of menthol. The alcohol is a bit too present. Average finish. Really has a Hispanic side with a sweetness that's a bit too heavy.

A strange first nose, medicinal. But the tropical fruits come soon after with marzipan in a strange slightly salty mix. On the palate, this medicinal side thankfully takes a back seat. The tropical fruits (passion fruit) dominate with menthol that refreshes the finish well and lingers in the finale, soon caught up by the medicinal side and wood. Not an uninteresting rum, but not very balanced either. It should be added that here the alcohol is perfectly integrated.

A beautiful piece. Matured for 20 years, that's quite something! I'm curious... Nose: intense, fruity, woody-spicy, slightly smoky-dirty, wonderfully integrated alcohol and really round and delicious. First the fruity component: Here a lovely sweet and at the same time sour mixture of green apple, gooseberry, red grape and red currant. There is also the freshness of mint. Also has a fine caramel note. Mint together with tobacco and light smoke then also achieve this typical light dirtiness. I like it very much. 8.9 Palate: Pure Trinidad DNA. Intense and powerful, slightly bitter at the very beginning and then the fresh mint fills the mouth. There are also slightly dirty notes of oil, iodine and singed plastic (almost sounds like Caroni 😏). Beautiful tropical fruit flavors emerge at the back, passion fruit and physalis. The mint and this slightly oily note linger wonderfully long on the tongue. Great old TDL, where you don't feel the 59%. 8.9

I wasn't expecting anything from this rum, but I was very pleasantly surprised! A beautifully complex rum with slightly dirty notes, mint, beautiful yellow fruits and woody notes.

Hammer part. Alcohol very well integrated. 59% are not noticeable. It has a nice depth of flavor, dirty trinidadesque notes. The finish is very long! The taste is still in the throat the next morning. The passion fruit in particular lingers for a very long time. A great thing!

Heavy stuff! A prime example of the TDLs before the 2000s and how much caroni was still in the mix here. Burnt rubber, incense, burnt muscovado sugar, tart passion fruit, fresh mint and slightly iodized bitter medicinal. Dirty, concentrated and elegant at the same time. The finish is a little too metallic and unrounded for me personally, otherwise I would have given it a 9+ rating. PLV absolutely top for the key data! You should try it!

Now that's a surprise. The nose isn't very engaging, a bit shy, with an almost peaty side at first... then the aeration just completely killed it, nothing left. But once in the mouth, it's the TDL I like with red fruits, menthol, pepper. A fatty, salty, tarry side... everything we love. Nice length as well. If the nose had been up to par, it would have been a real hit!!

Really good stuff for a very affordable price. Surely Caroni in there judging by the taste. Definitely don't leave the bottle open too long, air changes it very negatively here! Decant into smaller bottles...
