The soft nose promises lots of caramel, vanilla, raisin and date notes, as well as dried fruit and very faint orange. On the palate it's relatively thin with little body, but pleasant caramel and vanilla notes with slight accents of coffee and nice wood notes. The 40% ABV keeps the intensity somewhat in check but creates a creamy texture. The short finish is spicy, woody and offers caramel, vanilla and light coffee notes. This Botran is no flavor explosion, but a good rum for in between.

A very woody rum. The oak flavors dominate the taste profile with some dried fruits and a bit of vanilla to support it. But with a pricetag of around 80 to 90€ too expensive for what you get imo.

An entry-level rum without complexity, lightly sweetened. Gentle caramel notes with oak, dried fruits, and just a hint of coffee. The alcohol isn't very well integrated for 40% and it's way too expensive at 80 euros.

Read full review ›To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about rum from Guatemala at 40% strength. After all, I'm used to higher proofs and slightly different flavor profiles than those I know from typical Guatemalan rums. But to be honest, I'm very pleasantly surprised.
