If a briny, green-olive, high-ester white rum sounds like your kind of weird, this Savanna is built for you. Green olives and sea brine lead — one taster literally smelled "the sea on the rocks" — then esters, glue, sugarcane and a smoky, salty finish. Powerful and dry at 57%, more brine than sweet fruit. Neat with a few drops of water, or straight into a serious cocktail.

A rum with marked scents of olives and iodine. I feel like I'm breathing in the sea crashing on the rocks. It is really strong and leaves no room for too many nuances. Not for everyone. A summer rum! Definitely very suitable for cocktails of a certain level.I think, however, that whites, like wines, should be rated in a separate classification because they are too different from barricaded rums. This rating is high, but clearly cannot be compared to an aged rum because it is a whole different thing.

Typical Savanna profile I'd say. Very, very much olive, also esters on the nose, tropical fruits and glue. On the palate a bit nicer, still quite fruity and floral, probably also thanks to the esters :)

A small Savanna Tasting @ home. This one was the winner of the tasting! It‘s very similar to a HERR (still the best mark for me). Fruity, fresh, glue, berries, fluid gummi bears, olive, meaty etc. The meaty notes will almost disappear, if you add some drops of water and give it some time to rest. = Best way to drink it neat Resume: Creol

#5916 03.11.2025 Enjoying a few samples while relaxing in front of the TV. Nose Fresh, round, olive, faint polish, sugarcane, passioin fruit, citrus, light anise. Palate Oily, fresh, round, olive, light salt, berries, light citrus, sugarcane, light polish, light floral, faint metallic. Finish Medium long, round, oily, naturally sweet, olive, spice, citrus, sugarcane. Empty glass Sugarcane, strawberry, light pencil shavings, olive, light floral.

A rather special Savanna that plays on the quirky side that the Reunion profile can have. It has a powerful and expressive nose with mineral and metallic notes, then more vegetal aromas on grass, earth and olive. The fruits and medicinal notes (esters, glue, polish) come next, with a strangely smoky after-nose. A profile to say the least original. On the palate, the attack is all the more special. There's a mix of flavors on tomato, herbal, smoky and salty notes, fruits (especially olive) but also notes that recall the metallic side of the nose. It's dry, to say the least disconcerting. The alcohol could have been a bit better integrated. The finish is quite long, bitter, metallic and harsh. You can detect notes of copper, esters, a smoky and salty side, and especially the vegetal and earthy side that comes back throughout the tasting. A rather disturbing profile, which makes you either love it or hate it.

I wouldn't taste it at breakfast and I think a bottle would be too much, but I'm glad I repeated the tasting at RhumFest. The brine and olive notes, which take over from the esters and fruit, are quite surprising :)

17/09/2025: online Savanna Masterclass by Rhumlicious. This is some powerful stuff! Complex and fun to taste but I don't need a full bottle. Think it could be a great mixer as well. Price-quality ratio is great with this one.

My RumRatings review from 4 years ago: On the nose, the rum shows a very unique note. Smoky olives pair with intense sugarcane juice aromas. There is also some funk and light tropical fruit. On the palate, the rum is pleasant to drink. The high ester content brings some glue and fermented fruit, but also spicy floral notes, salt and a decent alcoholic bite. I have to honestly say that I don't particularly like the rum. My first high ester Savanna and definitely a world of its own. Above all, the nose doesn't convince me. But the rum is definitely interesting. Very good for blending and mixing.

Highest potpourri-funky. Fruits, banana, bacon, roasted aromas, cow dung. Intense and complex. That's fun. Very watery, fruits at the beginning, then dominant cow dung again. Cow dung lingers long and is complemented by smoky notes. Aromatic experience, intense, I like that. However, a bit wild and alcoholic. The 9-year-old with 46% is much more pleasing.
