This cheap (20€) Rhum J.M. Is just aged for one year in re-charred ex-Bourbon barrels. From nose, via palate to the rather long finish there is delicate grass notes, spices (I think I recognized cinnamon), cream and vanilla together with typical cane juice sugar. Overall a well-balanced sipping rhum that I think will make great in a drink.

The proof on this relatively lightly aged agricole turns the dial up on everything. The herbaceous grassiness is relatively strong on the nose, and (pleasant) musty burnt plastic on the palate carries through to a solid leather and oak finish.

A strong smell of honey, sweetish, a little fruity. The taste is also sweetish at first, honey, only slightly alcoholic. In the finish it becomes drier and woodier.

Best en daiquiri: big blast of wood, musty cellar, and bitter herbs on the fore. Bitter orange mallow and lime meringue on the mid with some spice but little heat in the end. I might expect this to work in rum amaro drinks like the Lost Plane or the Black Manhattan. Neat/rocks not so much for me. The cellar dominates with stale wood. Much hotter with indistinct sugar and grass notes.
