Anyone who likes their agricole with a Madeira twist should try this one. Sugarcane and fresh green notes meet raisin, dried dates and a distinct wine character from the island, with mint and warm ginger running through. At 51.3% it's a bit sharp neat — a few drops of water round out the Madeira side. Complex and unusual, and several tasters restocked it.

Yeah, the fact that it was distilled from sugarcane juice is obvious. Not really my taste profile, but there are worse things than this vegetal / floral / winey thing. Cheers ;-)

I have tried a few of these and the bar is pretty high. In general very few bottles leave the island and I usually get access through a friend going on holiday 😊 A nice medium dry and fruity rum with very good ABV integration. Good balance between the individual elements and a very long finish. Draws really nice curtains and the empty glass has the most wonderful flavours after a while.

Dark amber Smell: Immediately after opening caramel and glue, floor wax. Next day at the start mint and sugarcane. Light and fresh with aromas of sandalwood and beeswax. Taste: Tastes like solvents, plastic and floor wax. Also on the next day right at the start already strange and unpleasant. Medicinal-herbal, fermented with clear Agricole notes. Finish: Quite short, dry, woody, sour and bitter. 78 points

In the nose, we feel at once the sugar cane. By insisting a little, mixed with alcohol, one guesses floral aromas like the rose.in mouth, the aromas of sugar cane impose themselves then arrives a green pepper which lasts. The wood, young remains present throughout the tasting. The final, average, remains on the heat of the green pepper. The wood associated with the sugar cane gives impressions of liquorice. A good rum, rather simple and young, which makes think of Madeira.

Very vinous/sherry nose, grapes, dried fruit, toasty aromas. Nevertheless, the floral Agricole notes such as sugar cane, fresh and earthy do not come up short. In the mouth and finish actually very similar to the nose, but with less fruit and instead more Agricole influence. Sherry lingers here for a long time as well. Also spiciness in the form of ginger, but always accompanied by sweetness from Madeira wine barrels. Pretty round thing!

very nice Madeira rum! for me so far the most complex and balanced I had.on the nose directly intense after Madeira wine, prune, acacia honey, as well as some mint and candied fruit and ginger.taste then directly the mint, then nutty Madeira and date notes and fruit bread. in the finish, the mint then intensifies and becomes menthol, plus candied spicy ginger, grapefruit peel and in addition beautifully fresh and pleasantly balanced. at the end remains a slight acidity reminiscent of currant and again some mint. very tasty and summer!🙏

Discovered and tasted 2 years ago, I am only finishing my bottle and my last sample (I still have a bottle kept warm). A very good agricole with the typicalities of Madeira. For me, the best old rums from Madeira come from Engenhos do Norte. On the nose, the endemic cane stands out more on a nice brown sugar than on the freshness of Martinique or Guadeloupe cane, it changes. Cinnamon, caramel, seasoned wood and light menthol. On the palate, warm spices, sustained wood and especially a combination of licorice stick and overcooked caramel. A very well integrated alcohol. A finish that fades on a flammekueche, sugar crepe aspect. It is very indulgent and concentrated. Excellent value for money locally and on some Portuguese sites. Sold too expensive in France though. If this kind of profile between an agricole and a raw cask ron interests you, I advise you to then move on to the 15 years old from the distillery, vintage 2019 in mind.

Apparently rum becomes good when a certain bottler from the German north even looks in the barrel!Even if I do not necessarily like the rum from Madeira, this bottling, selected by Rum Artesanal, is great and exciting! Vegetal notes combined with various spices and dried fruits deliver Madeira flavor par excellence. Very complex and multilayered. The palate in particular convinces me, special mention here is probably my association "forest", which can probably be described in more detail by pine needles and the smell of damp moss. Class!

I hesitated for a long time but now got a sample and tasted it immediately. With its 51% not a weakling but quite drinkable. The sherry is well recognizable but not dominant. A balanced enjoyment that will gladly be repeated. Conclusion: Will be bought again.

Oops, that's a bit of a corker. Or at least something similar. Lots of notes of wine in here, the fruitiness is particularly evident in raisins and prunes. There's also something fresh, herbal and a little mint. A very exciting and unusual blend. On the palate, the mint comes first, followed by citrus oil. Raisin, dates and a hint of licorice in the middle. Towards the end, the mint becomes very present again, heavy and oily. The finish is then again sugar cane. Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but those who enjoy complex and above all unusual aromas will get their money's worth here.

My RumRatings review from 3 years ago: The rum has a nice fresh nose, with lemongrass and dried fruit. A nice fruitiness with a pleasant wood influence with some nuts and roasted aromas. On the palate, the rum shows a lot of fruit, again dried fruit, some grass, wine and a bit of honey. The finish brings an intense spice, which ushers in the vegetal finish with dried fruits and a hint of ginger. The current 970 is an exciting bottling, which makes it fun to further explore this distillery. The mix of fresh lemongrass and fruit is great. Only one note in the spice bothered me, so for me personally the rum falls a bit short.
