Buttery roasted popcorn, dark chocolate cookies and dried dates — this drinks more like a sherry-matured Single Malt than a Caribbean rum, thanks to that French oak Madeira cask. It's dirty, thick and syrupy-heavy, with tannins and a whiff of sulphur. Cask strength at 61.2%, but several tasters call it well-balanced for only three years old.

Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement with evaluated bottlings. All reviews are my personal, unpaid opinion. Awesome stuff. Only 3 years old and so tasty, mild and complex! Perfectly balanced alcohol content, dirty and intense with dark butter-fried popcorn, plus bittersweet chocolate cookies with red fruits, dates and lots of spices. Plenty of tannins and sulfur, as well as roasted barrel notes and salted pretzels and again butter popcorn round it all off. Very cool! For me an absolute banger. Makes an unbelievably awesome old fashioned and Mai Tai🤤 probably the absolute benchmark for rum from Madeira!

22.07.2025 Retasting a sample and it's still a pretty good release. --------------- #5095 Sunday - The last shots before our partners are picking us up 😊 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Medium to dark in colour. Nose Fresh, light wood, light roasted, faint grass, light sugarcane, fruits, dried fruit. Palate Fresh, light oily, round, olive, light salty, fruits, light mineral, light vegetal, light nutts, faint mint. Finish Medium long, wood, light roasted, medium dry, light mint, citrus, dried fruit. Empty glass Light chocolate, wood, light citrus, light anise, light grapes. Surprisingly good rum considering its relative young age.

O’Reizinho 3 ans Brut de Fût comes from Madeira and the distillery owned by the Ferreira family using a copper still. This rum was the first aged rum released by them and this is the brut de fût version, aged for 3 years in a French oak cask earlier contained Madeira wine. The nose is fresh, woody and vegetal with aromas of pepper, menthol, citrus, rye and apricot. At the palate and the rather long finish it’s spicy, nutty, bitter and dry with flavors of pepper, menthol, chocolate, licorice, citrus and apricot. Overall a very special Agricole very different from the ones from the Caribbean.

After the flop we just had, we needed a decent rum. Nice nade, chocolate, cookie and popcorn, but wood is also recognizable. The palate also has chocolate, cookies and wood. Very roasty in taste.

8,4:On the nose, the opening impression is a sherry finish agricole, as sugar cane is paired with dried fruits like raisins, dates, figs, roasted wood notes like leather, dark chocolate, popcorn, nuts. After airing, coppery notes arise, vegetal/flowery, burnt sugar, marzipan, some spiciness including umami and citrus.We get a very similar impression as at sherry finish whisky. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is strong, intense, a bit dirty with sherry notes and spices, sugar cane is syrupy, mineral, peppery, flowery, fruits are dried and red with cherry, citrus is in after resting the rum, the wood is roasted with chocolate, cookie, leather, caramelized burnt sugar after a while...sometimes we might thinking of tasting a thick marmelade....Tannins and sulphur notes are stronger after resting, so is black tea and a bit resinous wood. 8,5:The finish is long, dry and a bit tannic, a bit more vegetal and light with tea, a bit earthy and most of palate notes still lingering... Thanks to Pedro Ferreira, who gave my parents-in-law some rum samples :-) Compared to the 45% version, this one has roasted chocolate, cookies and caramel in the foreground, with wine and fruit in the background. The nose is great, in the mouth deliciously chocolaty, some wine and syrup. Leathery and somehow dirty. The finish is similar, only with a little more wood. Hats off to this rum!

Very harmonious bottling, again the quite own popcorn notes come through, the vegetal freshness has slipped into the background and leaves a little more room for the barrel notes. Balanced in the sweetness on a narrow degree, because the syrupy heaviness is already very present - I would welcome here a little more fruitiness as a counterpart, but for a three-year-old rum remains impressive.

Very fresh while surprisingly balanced given young age. On the nose i literally feel fresh sugar cane juice mixed with Madeira wine barrel. On palate it's syropy, at times touch sulphuric.

I have not had anything like this before. In the nose still dry port. Both in the nose and on the palate crass toasty, buttery and somehow dirty. Quite interesting, although for me only conditionally round.

An uncommon rum where the Madeira cask has taken over the distillate. It is dark, heavy, and powerful with sulfur that transforms into notes of wafer cookies.

This almost taste like an old school sherry matured Single Malt whisky with a good dirty edge (Ben Nevis or Mortlach). A tad sulphury but nothing problematic. Guess that is the Madeira influence; tannins/dried dates. Nice and thick. Very heavy cask influence no doubt about that. But a flavourful mouthful...I won't complain.

I recognize the know-how of this taste with the popcorn but the finality... It’s just a bad taste.... Nose: chocolate, popcorn Palate: intense chocolate, popcorn, salty, a bit intense, light wood Finish: long on chocolate and popcorn. My conclusion... This rum, you either love it or you don’t and I’m part of the second group. I think it’s the last time I’ll taste one with this popcorn taste...

Extremely greedy, sweet nose, but very alcoholic when the bottle is opened. Powerful, highly alcoholic palate. Bitterness with herbal touches. Warm finish. I hope that oxidation will do a better job...
