Why this bottle exists
The Wagemut Summer Festival 2025 in Quickborn. Nicolas Kröger pulls a sample of his Wagemut PX-Cask straight from the cask, full strength, no reduction. A Wagemut Summer Festival visitor takes a sip and says what everyone in the room is thinking: why isn't this what you bottle?
The regular PX-Cask is reduced to drinking strength before bottling. That's why it's so approachable, why the community calls it a daily sipper, why it became one of the most reliably loved Wagemut releases. The Cask Strength version is the same recipe with the volume turned up: the wood notes carry harder and the PX sweetness has to work harder to tame them.
From now on Wagemut will bottle one batch like this every year. The bottle that goes on sale through RumX from this Saturday 30 May 2026 at 00:00, before the official sales launch on Monday 1 June 2026, is the first edition.

A really nice sweet smell of honey, vanilla, oak, nuts. On the palate, the sweetness continues, plus some nice cookie dough. Solid rum for beginners. Probably one of the sweetest unsweetened rums I've ever tried.
German rum at its best. Real innovation. A great addition to the rum market. Complex nose and broad range of nuances.
Nose: pleasantly grapes, sherry and wood. Tastes sweet, fruity, sherry-driven. The Barbados rum comes through mild and unobtrusive. Very soft in the mouth. A sweet rum with no added sugar and no coloring. The sweetness is purely from the sherry. Really great.
A great opener for a tasting. Very drinkable and fruity, but still lacks depth. Solid nonetheless. Zero additives. Surely too sweet for serious drinkers, but this rum isn't aimed at them either.
A pleasantly soft and sweet rum. Wood, fruit, vanilla and honey define the flavor profile. Nicely drinkable with a light sherry note in the finish. Great value. Clear recommendation.
Sweet, easy-drinking, good as a dessert rum or for people who've only known sweetened rums. Sherry comes through well. Otherwise a bit thin for my taste.

The reviews above describe a soft rum that some RumX members wished had more body. The Cask Strength bottle is what happens when you skip the reduction step and let the cask speak at full volume. Same Foursquare base from Barbados, same 10 years of tropical aging in ex-Bourbon casks, same finish in 35-year-old PX-Sherry casks. Just no water added before bottling.
