Have had this rum for some years without opening it. It comes from the Distillerie De Port-Au-Prince founded in 2018 by Herbert Barbancourt-Linge Jr. This release, their second, uses “dunder”, which is leftovers from earlier distillations, together with cane syrup coming from plots owned by Michael Sajous, Clairin producer, in their pot still. The nose is fruity and funky with scents of pineapple, olives and coconut. At the palate it’s fruity, spicy, herbal, sweet and funky with flavors of pineapple, banana, olives, pepper, sugarcane, marmalade, marzipan and nail polish. The finish is rather long with a flavors persisting.

In my opinion, a solid mixer at a fair price. For me, it's not really my profile when sipped neat. Nice to have tried it, but nothing more. I find the aged one from Haiti better.

Jamaica meets Haiti or vice versa, but that's exactly it... the typical Clairin aromas and the esters complement each other quite well and give off a lot of funk.. for me a bit too much. Especially the slightly bitter finish bothers me, which doesn't quite fit the ester-heavy citrus fruits. But as a TiPunch it works excellently.. I would prefer it as a mixer.

#4885 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Round, vegetal, light floral, citrus, sugarcane, spice, faint smoke, faint anise. Palate Medium oily, fresh, balanced, vegetal, light herbal, citrus, light anise, light metallic, faint rubber, faint apple, medium spicy, faint smoke. Finish Medium long, fresh, balanced, fruits, light pineapple, citrus, faint smoke, medium oily, medium spicy. Considering the price for this bottle you get a lot for your money.

Nice combo here of funky ester clairin and classic molasses based white Haiti rum. Great daiquiri with it even if not an absolute revelation. Pure could be me the whole something rounder and less vinegary... Nice sour pineapple note in the finish

A white rum that stands out from the ordinary. The mix of cane juice and fermented syrup works well. You find a nice compromise between fruitiness, cane, a well-rounded fattiness; and on the other side vegetal, a slight smell of hydrogen peroxide (like mercurochrome). The finish is much softer, gentle, vegetal.

Now it kicks off. I love Clairins. Awesome stuff, as always very vegetal and floral. On the palate you can also recognize citrus fruits as well as overripe fruits. A Clairin always manages to convince :)

Very subtle nose, mostly light alcohol but on further nosing there are cirtrus, briny and peppery notes. On the palate there is sugarcane, grassy, vanilla. The vanilla bring a little sweetness. It grows into spicy and smoky notes.

The addition of dunder in distillation is a great experiment! Compared to the first release it loses some of the Haitian cane authenticity and goes toward Jamaican high esters while still remaining fat and rich on the palate! It is still fun to drink and releases a nice intensity of flavors!

One of the first white rums not from the French Antilles that I had the chance to taste when I started getting into rum. I had good memories of it. Glad to have tried it again and still convinced. It was quite pleasant: fruity, citrus, peppery, sugarcane. Cool to taste it again.

Among the first bottlings of the young distillery of Port au Prince, this young Haitian rum reveals on the nose a nice combination of meat, exotic fruits (mango, lime), olive, sugarcane, and fresh floral and vegetal notes. The whole is coherent, original, and attractive despite quite opposing aromas. On the palate, it's a thick, oily, and quite heavy rum that takes its place at the table, densely loaded with aromas. The smoky and spicy accents are joined by more metallic flavors (copper). You find ripe citrus (lime) and fresh, vegetal, and herbal tones that complement the empyreumatic dimension well. It's very pleasant to feel this kind of aroma in a raw product. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is of moderate length and showcases this "Haitian funk" between olive, citrus, sugarcane, copper, and smoke. It is drier, a bit more incisive but sharpens a profile with a round and ample tendency. A nice and original rum that will make a sensation in cocktails especially.

A very fruity nose. Mangoy citrus mixed with freshly baked crackers and rubber. The palate is quite floral and metallic. On the dryer side and with some herbal notes mixed in towards the back end. Quite sharp. The finish is long, smoky and salty. A nice rum. Not the best Haitian, but if you like the style this is pretty solid.

Personally, I preferred it to the first edition; for me, it shows a greater overall balance in tasting. It is consistent between nose and palate, has good intensity without ever being excessive. Works well in mixing, but I also enjoy drinking it neat.

Finish: Medium length finish, raw bell pepper, glue, vinegar, Lime Zest, Toasted Coconut. Rating: 7/10 Dirty, Raw, Vegetal, Slightly industrial but somehow a bit clean all at the same time. This rum has a ton going on flavor wise and will hold your attention all night. Strong cleaner, glue, vinegar is balanced out a bit by some Lim Zest and fruits along with the toaste

This is pretty good! A sweet. Heavy. Many nice notes for a white rum. The nose is quite promising as it is very fruity (apple/lime/coconut) and vanilla. It is very fresh and greedy on the nose, there are traces of sake in the background! It is a very expressive-funky and Haitian-specific aroma profile. The attack in mouth is slightly acidic with notes again on citrus fruits. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and it is easily tasted. Maybe even a little too easily. We don't find as much craziness in the mouth as in the nose. There is length but not enough greed and/or expressiveness. I prefer this vintage to the First Drops of 2019.

Pretty well rounded. Maybe I'm an amateur, but this comes off more balanced to me than the Clairin Rocher I just had. Water white pour--look at the photo, it's invisible. Caramel and vanilla. Pretty smoothe all around, and smoothe on the finish. Relativelyshort finish though. Tried at Pink Flamingo.

Perfect for Daiquiri-style drinks, as it still carries that funky, vegetal character beautifully. The higher proof really helps it shine through cocktails without getting lost. Also perfect when you feel Clairin is a bit too much for your palate, since this keeps the funk approachable and balanced.

I find it less acidic than other Haitians with a very fermentary/pastry side. I get something like shortcrust pastry. There is also a very mineral/vegetal side with unripe cane, green banana, and a bit of battery syrup and spices. Very nice
