Saint James Royal Ambré
Don't buy this one to sip — most people who tried it neat found the alcohol loud and the mouth harsh, with acetone and glue on the nose over young oak and a touch of vanilla. Where it wins is behind the bar: this Saint James agricole is a workhorse for Ti-Punch, Mai Tai, fruit macerations and even cooking. Green, grassy and a bit rough on its own.

How does Saint James Royal Ambré taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Rough neat, reliable Ti-Punch mixer Split verdict: as a neat pour many call it aggressive and overly alcoholic, but it earns real love as a Ti-Punch and cocktail base. A mixing bottle, not a sipping one.

Well, I tasted it anyway, but it's far from transcendent. Why not use it in cooking, to flambé and marinate dried fruits. It's a basic alcohol with agricole notes. This bottle doesn't even pretend much with its screw cap.
Review by Henry Davies
Really not my kind of rhum. The nose is aggressive and vegetal, the mouth worse - harsh, unbalanced and overly alcoholic. The only redeeming factor is the finish which mellows into a more typical sweet Agricole finish. I see no reason why I would drink this again as many better Agricole options

Very present alcohol, in the nose as well as in the mouth. Used before for mai-tai but I find that the quality decreases (or it's me who is more demanding).
Review by Émile Shevek
Agricole suitable for everyone, woody notes on the finish
Review by Wernie
Well, it was worth a try. It's just mass-produced. Sharp-edged, alcohol strongly noticeable, unround, woody roasted taste.

I like Agricole rums and got this one in France. I like to drink it neat or as Ti-Punch, a different experience from molasses-based rums. It's fruity and I usually describe it as "green" without being able to explain exactly what I mean.

The first rum I ever tasted! It's perfect for punch, and I'm not saying that to disparage it.

only good in a cocktail, that's where it convinces

that used to taste better... current batch is unfortunately very disappointing, I used to like for Mai Tai

Perfect for T-punches.

Mokra trava, light pleasant agricole
Review by Demaret Kylian
On the eye, nothing special, just like an agricole rum but rather dark for just around 18 months in a barrel. On the nose, we immediately get that acetone, glue, alcoholic smell. Behind all of this noise we get some vanilla, some pepper and some oak but it’s harsh. On the mouth, it’s dry and a little spicy with the oak. In the finish, we get the vanilla and the sugarcane juice/syrup from every agricole but it’s short. Good in the kitchen but not neat, but we have the agricole feel. 3.5/10

I use it for pancakes to add flavor, but otherwise it's atrocious to drink neat.

Top for macerations with fresh fruits.

Smells strongly of alcohol and tastes a bit like it too with some sweetness in the background, not my taste

Read full review ›You won't break the bank in doing so. It's a versatile and useful Rhum Agricole. It will probably appeal most to cocktail enthusiasts. I would imagine it is a good rhum to have to hand for a bartender. As it is so versatile. It's a solid sipper/premium mixer that will...
