Best over ice, where the oak and brown-sugar sweetness firm up — one taster found it "very washed out" in cola, so skip the mixer. Neat it's soft and sweet, with vanilla, toffee, dried figs and a light bitter-citrus edge. Several members find it thin and watery for a 20-year-old, but the sweetness is well balanced if easy, gentle sipping is what you want.

This was just a gift tasting from friend of mine. Not great or significant, but it was a tasteful experience with velvety nose. Sweetness is dominant, but well balanced after all. Not bad for a Dominican rum. I liked it.

I love good Dominicans when the weather is really hot like it is now so this is a disappointment for me. I think that there’s been a big devolution of quality in this brand where the old versions were quite a bit better. I’ve had several trustworthy people mention this as one of their favorite Dominicans which makes no sense to me considering the quality now that I try it. It’s light to the point of tasteless. Alcohol is well integrated but with something so aqueous it’s hardly an achievement. Dominicans are some of my favorite easy sippers but this one will not be in my rotation going forward. Really pales in comparison with good Dominican brands like Opthimus or the Makasares. Oh well, you live you learn. At least the bottle is beautiful.

Weak nose impression. Not much comes through. Very mild on the palate, sweet, simple. Feels heavily diluted. Finish with a slight bitterness and rather unspecific. Nope, not for me. A Zacapa Solera or a Planterey XO in the same price range is clearly better.

On The Rocks: On the nose moderate oak with brown sugar sweetness with fruit/floral undertones. Taste has a stronger alcohol and spice up front evolving into a sweetness and then back into a slight bitterness. Finish is long with moderate bitterness but yet some sweetness at the same time. There is some definite complexity developed giving it a more sophisticated presence. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose a mild musky oak. Taste is smooth but very washed out with only some mild sweetness. Finish is short with mild sweetness. This rum should only be served on the rocks.

Kirk & Sweeney Gran Reserva opens on the nose with rich vanilla, toasted sugar, and dark dried fruits like figs and raisins, wrapped in a gentle oak warmth. On the palate it is smooth and rounded, revealing notes of caramel, toffee, baking spices, and a touch of sherry sweetness. The finish is soft, lingering, and pleasantly spiced, with a silky, well-balanced character.

13/05/2026: Advent calender: Le Monde des Rhums 2025. Very disappointing rum. The aroma is very closed and almost non-existent. The palate is not great either, very sweet and thin. There are better options available for beginners. Not recommended.
