Ron Zacapa Centenario XO Solera (3. Edition)
Burnt toffee, vanilla and dried fig pour out thick and soft — this is dessert in a glass more than a dry sipper, and the 40% keeps every edge rounded off. Most tasters find it velvety and easy, a slow winter-fireside pour. A fair few also call it too sweet and a touch thin, wishing for more proof and grip behind all that sugar.

- Rich toffee sweetness

Used to be one of my favorites, but now it's too sweet for me! Still a tasty and smooth rum.

This rum is a gorgeous, ruddy toffee color, perhaps a shade more amber than the standard 23. 8,3:The nose, unsurprisingly, evokes more age, as well, with deeper notes of aged wine and seasoned oak that pair well with elements of dried fig, sticky prune, ripe banana, light citrus, dark roast coffee and creamy milk chocolate, with a touch of cigar tobacco. 8,4:The palate is still bright with all that citrusy, sherry-driven fruit, some banana, although a rich layer of dark brown sugar underpins things, adding a silky depth and gentle complexity. Coffee notes, nutty and lightly spiced, some leather, dominate the mid-palate. 8,4:Before a reprisal of fruit on the long finish, this time more Cognac-driven with golden stone fruits and some poached pear.It becomes drier at the end. Here is 23 more rounded than XO. All told, no matter the additives, here and there, it’s only a bit more impressive than the standard Zacapa 23, but that’s still saying something. A great special occasion sipping rum, a classic, as Mercedes Benz among the cars. Of course, if you can spare the shelf space, inspite a high price tag. Edit:30.5.25, still nice for sipping.

Absolutely flat and interchangeable, also sweetened and with a short finish. For the price, actually an outrage.

Nice bottle. In my opinion, however, there are many better alternatives for the price.
Review by BTHHo 🥃
The taste of oak cask clearly penetrates, but also notes of caramel and a sweet touch of vanilla. The aftertaste is long and very pleasant.
Review by Gregor
Extreme raisin. Very reminiscent of Armagnac and cognac. In addition, a slight sweetness that unfortunately comes artificially. Otherwise, this rum would have gotten from me a 90 rating

Many years ago, this was the Rum that drawed me away from single malts. Smooth, balanced, subtle sweetness. Whatever one might say, it’s a very balanced, smooth and of course easy sipping rum. But is Jamaica really that better because we feel more cool when drinking the hyped stuff? Is it bad because it’s not main stream anymore (well, in the world’s bars it is). Of course Diageo didn’t do any good to it. Nose is subtle and almost not present, but there is almonds, caramel, a smooth flavor. On the palate very balanced, smooth, chocolate, mocca, a nice sweetness, caramel. And even a smooth finish. It’s not challenging, not complex, no esters (but most destillers of whatever spirit don’t want esters as with any other alcohol than rum it’s a sign for bad quality - even if i like them)

This nice sipper has to rest for a while before nosing or you'll get a punch of alcoholic blast. The nose is wonderfully smooth even velvety I'd say. Smoky wood and fruity with toffee and spices. The palate is complex and very well balanced with smoky oak and spices and a hint of the cognac cask it was finished in. The finish is long and sweet with spices and coffee and once again a hint of the cognac cask.
Review by Gyuli
Sweet and nutty flavors are characteristic and linger on the palate. Very smooth on the palate with a medium finish. The finish is clean with little alcohol or spice. Unfortunately, when the bottle was emptied over 70%, the rapid aeration resulted in a somewhat gritty smell and reduced flavor. Nevertheless, this is a high quality rum that is easily accessible for rum beginners!
Review by Tim
Quite good and drinkable, but of course sweet. With Zacapa, however, the price is simply not right.
Review by Aussierumfan
In its own way, its an enjoyable rum, an after dinner dessert rum maybe. Very smooth and sweet, Caramel, toffee, chocolate, very easy to drink for sure. I don't find much oak influence despite the supposed 25 years of ageing (sarcasm 😄). I can see why a non rum person would find it enjoyable, it's very approachable. I guess not every rum needs to be an ester loaded hampden or a full of tar Caroni! I was given this bottle as an end of year gift from a company supplier and decided to give it a try straight away.
Review by TheJackDrop
A beautiful bottle that deserves to be revisited from time to time, it remains far from my usual style. In summary, my tasting notes: On the nose: Caramel, Toffee. On the palate: Vanilla, Caramel. The finish leans towards: Cocoa, Coffee, Vanilla.
Review by Portman
Despite the usual sweetness, there is enough room for gingerbread, vanilla, raisin, almond, something oriental, coffee and a little wood. Really great and definitely better value for money than the Royal.
Review by Surbiton Man
A wonderful mellow full flavour sipping rum ideal for a cold winter night in front of an open fire. It is a slow drinker as the finish, that needs to be savoured, is long and full.
Review by cigares
Quite a nice nose dominated by caramel and vanilla, but wood and other aromas including prunes and some tropical fruit are not far away. The palate entry is acqueous and diluted, and when the aromas rise, it's mainly sweet aromas that dominate, caramel and molasses. The finish is surprisingly long, with a strong woodiness, but here too the caramel is far too present for my taste.
Review by RumBarfly
Nectar from heaven. A bold, complex and inviting nose, warm sweetness and fruits, followed by a velvety smooth yet powerful flavour profile, ranging from burnt toffees to spices and cedar woods. Delightfully playful with a long, distinctive finish that evolves further from subtle spicy sweetness to a final bitter orange 3rd act.
Review by Daniel
Sweet flatterer and seducer! On the nose comparable to some rums from his house (chocolate, caramel, slightly fruity), he knows the drinker but strongly to ensnare with its sweetness and mildness. The honey in the finish is complemented by a light smoky note. A purchase for me!
Review by Chrischi78
Clearly too sweet for me but more pleasant than its cheaper brand brothers. Overall, however, not a particularly differentiated flavor profile. The sweetness dominates here too, with a little vanilla, toffee and wood. Once is enough.
Review by ThreeH
Nice color pimped to match the style. The nose and palate are a dream of softness. No edges or corners. Pleasant in a positive way. Nothing to fall to your knees over but certainly a tasty drop even for gentler souls. I like the cognac note on the nose.
Review by Galli33
Fruity rum. Great as a dessert. Nice solera rum, sad to say it’s to sweet for me.
Review by denny2195
Review by Leo Krüper
A decent solera. But far too expensive.
Review by Mathieu C.
Caramel, fine woody, fruity, chocolate (Black Forest!) On the nose and palate. Medium length. But too sweet!! (26 g/L? to be confirmed) Reference rum?
Review by Dirk E.
Nice rum from Zacapa. But it won't be in my shortlist.
Review by Stefan L
Haven’t tried this bottle in years and it’s been in the back of the cabinet behind more interesting bottles. Obviously my sweet tooth days are over. This is too rounded and tamed down by the high sugar content for me. Also I’m used to a lot higher ABV nowadays. … now a year later and I agree with myself. - Another two years since my last tasting and… this is boring… The nose it a lot better than the mouth. 260109: Again many years later and still agree with myself above.

One of my favorites so far. bit expensive for me but it’s nice to drink once in awhile.

Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Review by Jan Sajbrt
Very good and smooth rum, nicely drinkable, taste of coffee/caramel. Although nothing extraordinary stands out in the taste, overall it is very pleasant and warm at the end.
Review by Sebastiaan Linssen
Very accessible and delicious rum, I truly understand why so much people appreciate it. It is dangerously smooth, so dangerous that you need to keep an eye on the amounts you are drinking. I do however think, that by developing your taste over time, there are different rums in this price category which are more interesting. Nevertheless, i would definitely recommend having a bottle of Zacapa XO in your cabinet.
Review by Rumbaer
Pleasant lightly sweetened rum. Certainly an evolution of the standard Zacapa, but I find it priced too high. On the nose, lots of vanilla with oak wood and a fruity note of red fruits. On the palate, velvety, not biting. Lots of vanilla, some caramel and a nice woody note. For the beginner+, certainly a nice option.
Review by Leonardo Párraga
It's a masterpiece. The smell is complex and an invitation to soft textures but with personality. It has an imposing rum color that has matured over years. Its flavor includes a sweetness that develops along with the nose and taste on the palate as you explore more. A true gem and a rum not to be missed.
Review by Karsten Kolhoff
Very pleasant as a beginner i must say. Sweet nose, but needed time to breath. Almost no burn with lots of sweetness. The flavour developed the longer it circulated on the tongue with stronger chocolate notes at the end. Definitely suited to enjoy neat. Beautiful amber color. Very easy to drink

A sweet rum but very pleasant on the palate.

Only briefly tasted at the Rum&co anniversary. Maybe the rum needed more time. So I could only describe it as a pleasantly drinkable, not too sweet rum. Nothing special.
Review by Anonymous
Very smooth with a nicely strong back end without being overpowering.
Review by Julian Würtele
Very good upper rum, very similar to Zacapa 23. A bit sharper, especially somewhat unexpected for the price range. Very close to Zacapa 23, very aromatic. Especially good if Centenario is too mild and you need a bit more pep. Good sweetness and after breathing also moves into a good mildness.

Nice but fairly non-descript.

If you taste great single cask rums - I mean real great rums - Zacapa is no more good rum. Like - standard basis rum with mild infusion. OK, not such a masterpiece for me.
