Bacardi Carta Oro

Poured into cola or a Cuba Libre, this does its job — light, soft, a little caramel and buttery popcorn with a lemony freshness. Neat is where members lose interest: several call it thin and forgettable, one flat-out asks "where is the flavor?" A step up from the white Bacardi, but built for tall glasses, not a tasting flight.

Light gold mixer, forgettable neat Most agree it's a serviceable mixer and nothing more. Fine in a Cuba Libre, dull and light on its own — a few rank it barely above the Blanca.

Where is the flavor? Interesting on the nose but lacking in the palette department. Barely better than the Blanca.

Here again, pure a disaster, but you can use it as an emergency mixer.

Attention: The bottlings in Germany seem to have all been reduced from 40% to 37.5% in the meantime. The database is no longer correct, new creation or adjustment may be necessary. Compared to the Blanca, there's a lot more going on here. Very smooth with acidic notes, a hint of popcorn and various roasted notes. Classic, very sweet Cuba notes, but complemented by freshness. It remains similar on its own, but this hint of buttery popcorn stands out in particular. I'm surprised how round the Oro is, even if it is super light and meaningless. A nice crowdpleaser in long drinks when there are no nerds around

Smells rather soapy in a floral way, but overall not very tasty. Easier to sip than the Blanca.

Tasted 14-01-2017 This is another poor rum from the Bacardi family . The flavours are pure cheap distiale with slight oak and caramel to give it that colouring. E numbers will be high from this , another supermarket failure in the UK .

Expert review by The Fat Rum Pirate

Personally I would recommend picking up Cockspur Fine Rum ahead of this or even spending a little more and getting Chairman's Reserve or Doorly's 5 year old. This is better than I thought prior to re-trying but its still in the overall scheme of things pretty average.

Bacardi

Avg Rating 6.0/10 over 120 Rums

Bacardi is the world's largest privately held spirits company and the inventor of the light Cuban rum style, founded in 1862 in Santiago de Cuba but Cuba-less since the 1960 expropriation: today the rum is distilled mainly in Puerto Rico. The RumX community draws a sharp line between the Carta Blanca mixing base and the aged lines up to the Facundo range.
