Brugal Extra Viejo
Reactions land in the middle here: nobody hates it, few get excited. It's a wood-forward Dominican column rum — oak up front, then caramel, vanilla and a quick jump to pepper and spice. A couple of tasters used to sip it neat years ago and now find it flat and one-note. One member called the finish "quite harsh" out of the bottle; let it breathe first.

Review by Martin Švojgr

Review by Daniel
On the nose restrained but mainly wood in the foreground. In addition, caramel and marzipan notes. In the taste after initial wood notes quickly peppery. Powerful, but also one-dimensional. Inexpensive, sweetened alternative to Mount Gay, although this is clearly better.

Not very different from the XV tasted previously. A woody ron with controlled (if overly present) sugar. No depth, no complexity, no length. Not unpleasant, but not for me.
