A.F.D. Ron Barceló Añejo
Anyone building a home bar on a budget or mixing rum-and-cola will get the most out of this one. Light caramel, coffee, vanilla and toffee, with a woody edge and alcohol that isn't fully tucked away. Neat it's thin and a bit hot; most members reach for it as a mixer. A few find it pleasant enough chilled, but nobody's calling it a sipper.

Everyday mixer, thin and hot neat Middle-of-the-road Dominican rum most people keep for cola and cocktails. Fine mixed, thin and alcoholic neat. A few say it's drinkable chilled, but complexity isn't the point here.

Got it for mixing with cola and it convinced me quite okay. Compared to the alternatives here in Spain, which are also a bit cheaper, like Negrita, definitely better. Moderately alcoholic and pleasant sweet barrel aromas.

Good for mixing

What can you expect from a Chupito shot of rum at a Flamenco competition in Seville? I've got the answer: not much! A vague smell of caramel, coffee, a few spices behind some poorly integrated alcohol and a liquid/watery appearance. In short, it was all about respecting tradition.

Very middle of the road. None offensive. Ideal for a bar that need to hit price points but I'd avoid for the home bar.

Quite sharp... can be drunk. But rather something for mixing.

Had it with coke and it is fairly pleasant. Had it neat to get a better feel for the rum and it is ok. Fairly sweet with notes of caramel and toffee but not excessively so. There are also wood, dried dates and dark chocolate notes which are nice.

Found this one during a college dorm clean out and found it to be a decent rum for the price. Chilled it was smooth with no after bite. But also a great mixer

The taste only reveals itself when mixed with a soft drink.

Quite pleasant, you can even sip it solo. Not very complex but pleasant. Delicate sweetness, caramel, chocolate, mocha coffee, vanilla notes. Short but pleasant finish, coffee, vanilla and peppery notes. Great for drinks.

The sweetness that it promises on the nose does not translate to the taste. I would not recommend this as a sipping rum and the palate is mostly alcoholic, oily and woody.

To test in cocktail.

Powerful muted fume smell, honestly reminded me of a paint thinner at first sniff I once used, I did not find it pleasurable. Taste will be fine with a flavoured mix, but unremarkable on its own.

Cocktail rum. Very little flavor on the palate except for its spicy side.

Ok for mixing. Burns when drinking straight. Entry level Barcelo.

Avarege. Not great. Not bad. For the price, being one of the cheapest around, is fairly ok. Typical vanilla, caramel, with chocolate hints... Good to have around for those days to sip with friends and no need for expensive bootle.

Not much to look into it as a sipper, but get's the job done as a mixer.
