Santa Teresa 1796 Solera Rum
Sipneat or after a meal, this is a mild, rounded Venezuelan solera built on vanilla, caramel and soft wood, with a little spice and dried fruit behind it. Several tasters call it easy and pleasant but light on character, and a few note a slight burn and sticky sweetness for a 40% rum. Drier than many Spanish-style rums, though still noticeably sweetened.

Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Mild, sweet vanilla-caramel everyday sipper Most find it smooth, sweet and easy to drink, with vanilla and caramel up front. The recurring gripe: it's pleasant but lacks distinctiveness, and a few catch a bitter, slightly hot finish.

Very pleasant nose. Lots of sweetness and a little wood. The palate is as sweet as expected but its not clogging. Think wood covered in caramel. The finish is shorter than i'd have liked but for the time it's with you it's got a nice dried fruit and biscuit notes to it. Overall, a good rum that would make a great gift.

Rather a restrained, not too intense nose. Unfortunately also very weak and not very aromatic on the palate. Drier than expected, which I like, but also very thin and very watered down in terms of mouthfeel and, unfortunately, a certain alcoholic sharpness that doesn't quite want to go away. The finish reminds me more of strongly burnt, slightly bitter cookies... If it weren't for the alcoholic spiciness, 10-15 points more would certainly be possible here...

Very smooth, pleasant rum. As a typical solera column still, no big surprise here, but it plays that role excellently! Pleasant sweetness and nutty-creamy, which I associate with Venezuelan rums. Edit: Upon re-tasting, I have to deduct points for lack of complexity and intensity. The value for money is also not the best.

No wonder this rum won the 2010 International Rum Expert Panel silwer medal. A great rum at an affordable price.

Santa Teresa is considered the premium product from Venezuela compared to Diageo's Pampero and the eternally sweet Diplomatico/Botucal. Venezuela has its own style, which is rather strong for Spanish-style rums. Santa Teresa is probably the most elegant of the aforementioned rums, relying on an authentic solera process.Although the 1796 Solera also contains portions of heavy rums, the nose is very typical of Spanish style rums very light: little distillate, lots of wood and quite sweet caramel - much more lovely than the burnt bitternotes from Guyana. I also find something like coffee dissolved Nutella. In the mouth, the first thing I notice is the sweetness. There is definitely sugar in here. Otherwise, the profile is quite similar: coffee, milk chocolate, sweet caramel plus some coconut. Not unlike a sweet, light Foursquare. In the finish, the sugar glues the astringency shut, and the little bitterness that remains is immediately noticeable in a negative way.Compared to the Don Q Reserva 7, the Zuber in particular is noticeable in a negative way. Although the Santa Teresa is more powerful, the sweetness spoils the impression. It also lacks fruit to balance the wood.

7,8:The nose of this rum opens with typical notes of molasses and caramel. Simple and pleasant, it evolves on a rather fat and sweet blond tobacco. It's easy to see how the cask has been burned, as a toasty woodiness gives the whole a firm hold. When the glass is shaken a little, a fairly powerful alcohol takes flight, bringing with it fruity notes and a sort of strawberry candy. This second nose takes a decisive step away from the first impressions, giving way to cane sugar syrup. 7:On the palate, the rum recaptures the character seen on the nose in the opening moments. There are burnt notes of sugar, molasses and wood, with a hint of vanilla. Its texture is very smooth, round and also tangy at times. But in the end, it's the toasted profile that stands out: a slice of toasted bread comes out. 7:The finish is light and easy, like a milky caramel candy... Edit:2.8.25, 12.9.25, as a nice mixer in Strawberry Daiquiri

A commercial Hispanic rum, classic and bland. The nose is soft, sweet, caramelized and vanilla, with some chocolate, sweet spices and a hint of dried fruits. In the mouth, we find a syrupy rum, diluted and without surprise. The trio of caramel, vanilla and chocolate dominate on a light profile with subtle woody and nutty notes. The finish is equally short and unmemorable.Terribly bland for a rum that has won several awards in various competitions. It's been a long time since I made such a short comment.
Review by Dunzi
A rum that probably doesn't have the recognition of, for example, Diplomatico (Botucal) or Ron Zacapa, but absolutely doesn't have to hide from them. Great price-performance, no artificial flavors, really comes across honestly. I really like this rum.
Review by w00tAN
Light, very pleasing rum. Perhaps a little thin apart from vanilla and a little fruit, the sweetness dominates. Will certainly also be sweetened. For in between as an easy sipper or for starters and at the price quite okay.
Review by Romain de L
Not bad - easy - but honestly not great. I think the main criticism is that it has very limited character / distinctiveness That said, for a rum beginner, looking for a mid type entry, it’s pretty appropriate
Review by ordogh
Going deeper from Venezuela, dry and straight rum with decent spices and nice balance.
Review by Maxime Clr 🇫🇷
An uninteresting rum, but one that gluggles and doesn't go overboard. A reference, however, for those new to this passion!

This ron, from which I wasn't expecting much, finally has something to say. The profile is not surprising, but the nose is quite pleasant: vanilla, caramel, barrel, spices. Alcohol well present, and a surprising smell of glue. No surprises on the palate. We find the same markers as on the nose. The woodiness is bitter and the alcohol is initially biting, before the vanilla and caramel notes take over. I was pleasantly surprised by the nose, but on the palate it's just another basic Ron.

Round and sweet. Very short on the palate.

Very watery
Review by Oscar Fernandez
Good Venezuelan rum, Spanish style, light and with sweet notes everywhere. Not very gripping in the mouth, but it drinks perfectly.
Review by Christophe Milot
Nose: aromas of fruits, honey with notes of dark chocolate. Palate: complex notes of honey, tobacco and smoked leather. It’s a round rum, perfectly balanced, which only the SOLERA aging technique can provide. Finish: Quite full-bodied yet delicate, elegant and velvety. It evokes nuances of the oak in which it aged. Source: excellence rhum Certainly one of the best solera rums in the world, it just lacks a few degrees...
Review by Henning
I like it and find it round. A bit short on the finish but otherwise very well balanced. Neither too sweet nor too much wood or spice. The price-performance ratio fits pretty well here. I like to use it for cocktails, e.g. Old Fashioned or Old Cuban. Works great with bitters and orange notes.
Review by ThatCubanRumGuy
Nose Caramelized brown sugar, molasses, and vanilla, with some undertones of baked fruit, leather, oak, and hints of smoke. Palate Sweet toffee, honey, sugarcane coupled with some dark chocolate, cinnamon, almonds, leather, tobacco and dried fruit. Finish Medium finish with pepper, vanilla cocoa and some light smoke.

I would also recommend it to any beginner. A nice easy sipper. Have not regretted the purchase at the time.
Review by Christian B.
Pleasantly mild, but I miss something, the "certain something." Other varieties have more... character? Soul? I like to drink this rum when it's there, but I wouldn't seek it out specifically.
Review by Scapy
This rum shows a dark amber color with reddish reflections. On the nose, especially wood, vanilla, and slight hints of spices and tobacco are noticeable. Taste-wise, the sweetness is moderate, not too dominant. Nuts, chocolate, wood, and caramel on the palate. The finish, in my perception, is rather medium-length with dry nuances. Price/performance quite okay, nice bottle seal with red wax.
Review by Jus Liens
Good for beginners (better than the Eminente 7 year typically, in the same range), without being too simplistic. Can be enjoyed by a rum lover. Flattering nose, and pleasant palate. Short finish. An enjoyable rum overall.
Review by rum_sk
Very nice rum, sweet with oak and barrel as its main ingredient. Retaste: Again the price for the bottle is ruining it for me. Absolutely not corresponding with what this rum offers. Do not get me wrong it is quite nice rum but a little bit dull and does not offer anything special or outstanding in the 👃 or 👅.
Review by Paprio Rum
Good rum, smooth allthough nothing special.

I tasted this magnificent rum after several cocktails so my perception might be biased. But I loved it. Lots of spices and lots of flavors, pleasant. A very good rum at a fair price.
Review by rumiub
Sweet vanilla. Slightly spicy notes. Noticeably nutty. Lots of tannin, which gives the rum a distinct bitter note. For 40% ABV the finish is very sharp.
Review by Karsten Kolhoff
Very pleasant aroma of caramel on the nose. Extremely smooth, slight taste of alkohol. Nice and subtle amount of spice and taste of wood. Very round.

balanced, mellow at 40%. Overall a dependable rum
Review by BastHops
Rum not bad for getting started with the solera style. Not an extremely complex rum but I have to say it does the job! It is equally appreciated by connoisseurs and those who are new to rum.

A nice surprise.
Review by Tyler L
Pretty good. Not too complex but pleasin GB front to back. Nose is very nice. Sweet and aromatic, baking spices and caramel with apple notes singing in the background. Probably the best thing about this rum, beautiful. It’s fairly sweet through and through with some pepper and plum punching mid palate. Nothing complex or all that interesting but it’s nice. The finish is short with a faint sweetness played out out in chocolate with some barrel notes and a little earthiness.
Review by High Ester Maitai
It's a simple rum, nothing too fancy. Pleasantly sweet. Caramel, vanilla, wood, a little spice, and a bit of fruitiness in smell and taste. It is not a watery or generic, one-dimensional, caramel-rum-tasting rum, but it is a well-crafted product. Personally, it isn't rum I would choose, but I would be happy to get this as a gift.
Review by Solidfunk
Light roasted caramel and a hint of tangy orange marmalade. Comes together quite nicely. Orange amber hue. Very smooth drinking. Maybe a hint of leather. Great subtle complexity.
Review by Jakob Deiner
Very classic vanilla and caramel notes paired with light wood and very subtle fruit notes more in the background, creamy and mild. Neat: - 4/5
Review by Michael 84
I find the rum really quite tasty, it reminds me of Ron Zacapa Centenario. It's sweet but doesn't overdo it - I would recommend it.
Review by Anubis
Very nice discovery I recommend. Not very sweet and not too lively on the palate. Medium length and aroma but without any off notes.
Review by Steve S.
A very accessible rum in an attractive package. It probably could have done with a bit less sweetening, as there is a slight burn going down that leaves me wondering what the dosage is covering up. And that bottle is a touch too tall to fit in my cabinet. But, I'm not complaining one bit here. There is a very welcome upfront hit of vanilla and honey, which is found in both the nose and taste. Then it gives way to that signature peppery spiciness that I've come to love with Spanish style rum, and finishes with a touch of wood and soft caramel. Likely, this rum is going to be a permanent stock for me, even if the wife complains about having that "gaudy tube on the counter." You just simply cannot go wrong with this one.

Caramel and barrel aroma are very nice. The aroma is sweet but the taste is spicy.
Review by paulgi86
Tasted from Sample TL;DR review is sweet, smooth and very crushable I use this app to see get inspiration for my tasting notes as I’m relatively new to rum - so far, I’ve yet to come across any rum that has a fruit forward flavour profile It’s not to say I dislike this rum, it’s sweet but seems suited for bourbon drinkers as it’s got similar flavour profiles What I’d love to see is a Cask Strength version of 1796 to see how it compares and ramps up the flavour Basic sipper but for the money there’s better out there

Review by Stjepan Lovasic
Strong aroma on the nose. The taste is very rich and complex, with a prominent flavor of molasses. The finish is smooth and pleasant, with a long lasting aftertaste.
Review by Simon92
A pleasantly rounded rum that brings me mainly fruity and slightly vanilla aromas. Also a nice light wood note and with 40% alcohol by volume, it is very smooth. If you have the chance to try it, it's definitely worth a shot.
