Clément VSOP
Anyone curious about aged rhum agricole without diving into the deep end will find their footing here. Expect grassy sugarcane, apple and citrus up front, then oak, pepper and a smoky, slightly dry finish. Several tasters call it a great first agricole. A few wish the barrel didn't mute the cane's character, and one or two find it thin and a bit watery.

How does Clément VSOP taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Easy, grassy first aged agricole Most people treat this as the textbook entry to VSOP agricole: fruity, grassy, lightly smoky and easy to drink. The catch is it plays it safe — pleasant but not distinctive, and a little thin for some.

This is a really good agricole. With all the classic facets of an agricole. Pleasant to drink. I enjoyed this one after a delicious meal in Padova🤌🏻

A decent entry level aged agricole, if not a little bland. The barrel integration is interesting, adding some nice spice and oakiness, but I think it muffles too much of the character that Clement’s unaged distillate has going for it.
Review by Stefan Persson
Overall an typical AOC Agricole for its age thats not especially complex or characterful. The nose is fruity and smoky with aromas of nuts, oak and bourbon. At the palate the aromas comes back as flavors.

30.08.2025 Retasting at the German Rum Fest. ------------ What I like most about this release is the warmth on the palate and the smoky wood. Lightly dry and you're not in doubt that you're having an Agricole 😊
Review by LukaŽiga
7,7:On the nose, it is light, the first impression is like we scent Islay whisky, but just for short, because then agricole steps in with Martinique volcanique notes. Fruits (grape and prune) and nuts (hazelnut and almond) are the omnipresent on this nose, when aired a bit. Caramel is also here, as some herbal, flowery and woody notes. Becomes dry, some roastedness is here. 7,7:On the palate, there is also fruity, there is grapefruit, and dry with some honey, agricole is mainstay, with Martinique volcanique notes and is flowery, perfumed. A hint of pepper makes some presence, as saltiness and wood. Nicely round and balanced, with minimal acidity. Nice chocolate smokiness is felt when the rum is well rested. As well we could find some undertones as resin, juniper and licorice. 7,6:The finish is medium, a bit thin and dry, pepper spicy with dried fruits... Upgraded to 7.7...from 7,4 Edit:6.3.26, 22.6.26

Vacation Caribbean September 2026. Pub Restaurant Bodlanmè Bar Marian on Martinique. This pub is also in our hotel complex, so it has to be tested. This rum is really very tasty.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A pleasant permanent range rum, offering a delicately woody, slightly vanilla nose, followed by cinnamon, a smoky edge and dried fruits (grapes). Sugar cane and a touch of caramel follow. Simple and effective. On the palate, sugar cane returns with agricultural and herbaceous notes, followed by spicy wood, tobacco, walnuts and dried fruit to balance out the dry but relatively mild profile. The finish, of decent length, leaves the imprint of wood, smoky notes and spices, with a slightly perceptible vegetal influence. A most typical agricultural rum, with no apparent flaws but no extravagance either. A good introduction to rum from the French West Indies.
Review by Rumpalumpa
The one year longer aging compared to the Damoiseau VO is clearly noticeable. The aromas remind me of Cognac. Somehow dusty but overall very round, unfortunately also too watery.

Tasted this at the Whisky & Rum festival, 27th of october 2023 in Copenhagen. The cane-juice is really prevalent in the nose here, and I got some notes of fruit and wood as well. Would be a good entry into agricole rums
Review by Johannes
Good Agricole, but the alcohol is not so well integrated despite the dilution. The finish is quite astringent.
Review by Tim
On the nose still very round with caramel, fruit and smoky wood. In the mouth there is then a rugged transition to sharp vegetal notes and dry spicy wood. The finish, which continues to be dry, features spicy, slightly sweet vegetal notes, always accompanied by smoke. Certainly a good rum if you like this bouquet.
Review by Lukas Jäger
Solid entry-level agricole or simply an easy sipper. Lots of citrus fruits that play around a lean Agricole base note.
Review by Émile Shevek
A version a bit better than the VO with typical notes of vegetables, slightly toasted young wood, dried fruit, cane and a bit of cognac.
Review by Henry Davies
It just doesn’t work for me. The nose is really rather pleasant, balanced with sugarcane some herbal elements. On the mouth it doesn’t deliver, light spice and a lot of herbal and grass notes that are exemplified in the finish. It has a real dry and herbal tone that is the overriding elements notes of the rum. It’s a bit brash as well and feels like it is on the young side
Review by Skyfly
Light wood and fruit notes on the nose, also some apple. On the palate like a typical agricole with herbs. Little sweetness, but vanilla still comes through. The finish is short and woody. Alcohol well integrated.
Review by Godspeed
The mainstream standard-holder for VSOP agricoles. It is a recommended expression but there’s way better out there to be had. But, it’s kind of the agricole I’d have hoped to have had as my first taste because it’s such a neutral yet good example of the style sitting smack in the middle of the average age ranges. A great introduction to the world of rhum agricole.
Review by Cédric Meyers
very pleasant for a VSOP.
Review by Bob_
My first VSOP Agricole, so that I can make a judgment about this origin in general. In any case, the taste was very spicy and woody, rather dry. No vanilla, no caramel. Rather short finish.
Review by Christoph
Orange, apricot, raisins. Has something of trail mix, where I would otherwise sometimes say that goes well with dark chocolate.
Review by Pandemonia
Rather mild, too polite and unassuming. Takes too little space, except that it still hasn't quite lost the alcoholic sting. Sweet vanilla/toffee on the nose, more woody on the tongue. Nutmeg throughout. Short and anonymous finish. Good rum but not exceptional. Probably accessible to many and though I am inexperienced, this one did not exactly impress me (though I repeat it was good).
Review by Alan Champion
Very nice introduction to aged Agricole. Light on the palate, and still has a touch of grass notes. I do wish it was still as funky as Agricole can be, but replacing that with the wood notes from the barrel is a fair replacement. Though it's a little too mellow to spectacular, it certainly is enjoyable.
Review by Abrahan Reyes
Very smooth and has no harsh alcohol feeling, I was expecting more like the herbal flavor but is very dim. Nose: Candies. Taste: smooth, kind of reminds me of a Cognac. The aftertaste is where you feel more of the herbal and sugarcane properties.
Review by Eldon24
On the nose, a scent of wood, toffee, walnut, and slightly medicinal. In the glass, a light golden yellow. On the tongue, a rather watery mouthfeel. Flavor notes of peach, wood, and cinnamon. On the finish, once again a taste of peach, apricot, and teak wood.
Review by ChristophFFM
Smells pleasantly fruity and mild. Taste quite spicy and peppery, but not alcoholic.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
solider vsop.
Review by Tupiaz
I get a taste of flowers. There's also a taste of fruits, here I get associations to gummy candy. In the finish, there's a taste of oak wood that gives a burning/rye finish which contrasts with the soft and sweet start.
Review by rum_sk
Not bad at all. Kind of hard for me to describe or to depict something but it is really lovely and I can mostly sense orange or orange peel in the taste. I have to retaste I have 1 more sample but essentially I like it.
Review by Hörnchen
Unfortunately quite a disappointment in the glass. The body is extremely thin and overall almost boring. There is a brief flash of fresh, characteristic agricole aroma, but it immediately fades into a completely flat and one-dimensional flavor curve. It's simply lacking punch and aromatic depth. A few more volume percent would definitely have given this rum the backbone and intensity it so desperately needs.
Review by DJ Wolfson
The smell is very inviting, but the taste is heavy in wood and smoke. A sharp, yet short aftertaste that quickly smooths out to a pleasant finish. Somewhat of a rollercoaster.
Review by Mateusz
Really tasty, but not that distinctive. Would certainly recommend.
Review by Necron
Very particular rum. It is inviting you with its sweet smell and then surprises you with the strong alcoholic and spicy taste. The pleasant sensations linger on your toungue for quite a while and surprisingly leaves you wanting for more. Not recommended for those new to rum unless they are already suited to spices.
Review by DutchRumPirate
Rum tasting at a good friend's place. Very fruity on the nose, apple, fresh and round. On the palate again that fresh apple and grass, spicy and round. Finish is medium and light. Overall I am quite crazy about this rum, also in this price range.
Review by jazz8751
Very good VSOP. Smooth and floral.
Review by Montana
A fruity smell, somewhat alcoholic and a bit like glue. The taste is fruity, somewhat sweet with a medium-long aftertaste.
Review by jayelle
Almost has a bourbon flavor up front. More so than a rum. This is also been opened for almost 10 years. The finish has a residual sweetness to it. Also some big grassiness common with the agricoles.
Review by Solidfunk
Smoke and a earthiness, tobacco. Pale golden in colour. Some ashtray in the finish.
Review by Jarek
Weak and thin.
Review by cbs
Interesting blend of rich fruitiness with smoke. Astringent finish gies a nice contract from the initial sweetness as it hits the palate.
Review by Rado Vito
This agricole rum is nicely done. Such a nice smell with smoke, oak, grass and tangerine. The taste is very soft, almost sweet, with tones of fruit, grass and salt. Aftertaste is dry with a touch of pepper. Not bad, really not bad!
Review by Anja Kaule
Not sweet enough for me. The trend is okay though.
Review by Dropkick Moppi
For drinking neat. I would buy it again.

One of the better standard agricoles for me. It is a bit alcoholic but not overly so. Still has some nice complexity and really is fun. This is rum you hope to be served in a non rum bar and be happy for the evening
