Père Labat Black Opus 2009
Citrus jumps out first — tangerine and orange on the nose that several tasters found genuinely inviting. The palate turns woody, with vanilla, soft caramel and a herbal, grassy agricole edge. It's a Marie-Galante cane-juice rum aged 11 years, and one member called the cask work "très réussie." The catch a few flag: at 42% it can read a touch soft, and the citrus fades on the tongue.

Tasted blind and what a beautiful discovery. At first contact no doubt it's pure cane juice. High proof on this bottle, I discover Père Labat. I've only drunk whites from this distillery (with atypical notes) and very young rums that didn't convince me much. Here the barrel aging is very successful with a very nice caramelized gourmandise.

Plain - must say I expected more from a +200 EUR bottle of rhum - especially when it's from Marie Galante and the Labat distillery.

My first Pere Labat tasting with the guys and a lot of fun. This one was a nice surprise and price to quality is good.

Vanilla, roasted aromas, wood. Clearly Agricole: floral, grassy, slightly perfumed. Nice mouthfeel, crisp yet relaxed to drink. Stewed fruits like peach and some pineapple, plus a dense aroma for 42%. Very successful maturation, the wood is super integrated. Overall fine, accessible and convincing.

Great rum but a little lack of power. 46 abv would have been great. Also the price is too much. I’d rather go for a Neisson VSOP for 70 euros. Instead of 240 for this one.

A very beautiful elegance. I don't have much experience yet with the old Père Labat rums, but this Black Opus really impressed me. Very refined, with a woodiness that's very gentle. The nose and palate develop on very indulgent notes, especially caramel. A perfect rum to accompany a dessert.
Review by Florent Apl
The nose is very inviting, tons of citrus especially tangerine and orange. On the palate however, it's essentially wood, vanilla and herbal notes, citrus is faint and in the back. I was hyped by the nose but for me this rum falls in the category of enticing nose that do not deliver fully on the palate unfortunately. Alcohol is very well integrated though, it's doesn't feel too thin despite the low ABV.

Showrum Bologna 2025 - to be tasted again to confirm score and notes A nice Pere Labat, maybe the First aged one that I like enough. A good selection with a nice bottle, despite the price is a bit High for the abv

Toaster notes, light exotic fruit. Lacks power.
